PC Peripherals Need help on upgrade

Hi

This is my first post here.

I would like to upgrade my PC :) and I would like some suggestions from the knowledgeable members.

I use the PC for video downloads, chat, and very rarely for games.

I am planning to use monitor (Samsung 17" 793s) from my previous system, keyboard, mouse etc.

I need information on processor (preferably intel), motherboard (preferably with onboard graphics), ram and a cabinet/smps.

This system is meant to be a low to mid-end system, so that I could buy a new one at the end of this year.:D

The budget for the above components are below 17,000 (strictly):( . Since I am from chennai, could u please give the price in chennai and information about where to buy.

P.S. I would also like to know how much a pentinum D processor and core 2 processor differ in performance, say between a pentium D 925 and C2D E4300.

MY Suggestion:

AMD X2 3600+ Brisbane + Asus M2n-mx motherboard + 2 X Transcend 512 MB DDR2 533 + Zebronics Lava Cabinet + Zebronics Delta 500W SMPS

3.5k + 3.5k + 3.2k + 1.2k + 1.5k= 13k (approx)

U can stuff in a new bigger HDD + a DVD writer if u dont have one which will be very useful in a download rig

HDD- 250 GB Seagate 7200.10 SATA2 --- 3.5k

DVD RW--- LG H42N----1.6k

Since you have a budget of 17k and are going to buy a new machine at the end of the year,I suggest a X2 3600+ based system with a Powersafe 500W and Transcend 1GB/512MB Ram.

A E4300 should easily defeat the D 925.It is beaten even by a AMD X2 3600+

Thank you Supra for the quick reply.:hap2:

I do have seagate 120gb HD and a LG DVD writer.

I would also like to have a configuration with Intel CPU so that i could decide upon which one to choose.:)

Intel C2D E4300- Rs 8000

Asus P5LD2-VM SE-4300

Transcend/Kingston 1GB DDR2 Ram- Rs 3100

Powersafe 500W- Rs 2500

Zebronics Lava-Rs 1200

Total-Rs 19,100

You could go for the PSU suggested by Supra for Rs 1500

I doubt if 1GB will cost Rs. 3100.

And dont think 500W smps is needed here. You can get 450W smps + Zeby cab for about 1.5k.

LAVA(the one with temp display) costs around 1.6k not 1.2k afaik.

Asus P5LD2-VM SE has maximum RAM capacity of 2GB only. Better go with MSI Neo F. Has good overclocking options in BIOS also.

^^ But he said he's going to buy another rig.

Also for a downloading rig no more than 1GB is needed....

He mentioned that he needs a mobo which has onboard graphics and afaik the MSI P965Neo doesnt.

For the Zebronics Lava,I told the price that Supra had given.

hmm I think the thread starter should make clear whether he plans to upgrade at the year end or purchase an entirely new system.

I think its better for him to upgrade at year end, so for that right now he needs a mobo which can support quad core(or even core 2 extreme) and atleast 4GB of DDR2 800MHz memory.

Thank you all for the reply.:)

I am upgrading my sys now because I would like to buy a new sys at the end of the year and gift this system to my sister.;)

Again, thanks for the suggestions.:hap2:

I would recommend you AMD X2 with the budget you are having:
AMD X2 4200+ -> Rs. 5800/-
MSI K9NGM2-FID -> Rs. 4500/-
Corsair 1GB DDR2 RAM 667 MHz -> Rs. 4500/-
Zebronics ATX Cabinet -> Rs. 1000/-
Zebronics Pure Platinum 460W SMPS -> Rs. 1800/-

At stock speed Intel C2D E4300 is almost equivalent to AMD X2 4200+, also Intel doesn't have any good sol for Motherboards at this Budget. The AMD one supports HTPC, has both Analog and DVI Output for Connecting VGA Sockets. NVidia's GeForce 6150 is equivalent to Intel's 965G Express Chipset.
So if I compare:
Intel C2D E4300 -> Rs. 8200/-
Intel DG965RY Motherboard -> Rs. 6500/-
Total: 14,700/-
Hence a Total Saving of Rs. 4,400/- if you go for AMD.
