Hi,
I have a Sparkle 8800GT. I am thinking of upgrading it. My budget is arnd 10K. +-1K perhaps. I dont want to spend too much on a new card.

My Config is
Processor: Q6600
Motherboard: Gigabyte EG41MF-US2H
RAM: Zion 2x2GB DDR2
PSU: 600W Cooler Master

Purpose is mainly for gaming, but i watch movies n HD stuff sometimes on it as well. And Work with stuff like Photoshop and Illustrator.
I dont want a graphics card that will bottleneck my CPU. I will play at 1680x1050 resolution. Oh, and I would prefer an nvidia card over Raedon. But suggest me both.

What should I go for?

Thanks,

Anagh

Ohh, buy the HD6850. Fits ur budget perfectly, at that resolution gaming will be a blast.... Dunno why the preference of urs.

GTX460 is last gen(nVidia made it last gen although silicon in GTX500 is renamed shit after all, so dont somebody pick on me and this statement).... HD6850 has great power consumption figures(near HD5770) with performance near HD5850..

the preference because i tried running TRINE on a Raedon and it wouldnt. and trine was an awesome game. later found out it was because of the physics driver something something. So i am going for an nvidia just for the physics driver sake.
Could someone please tell me the price of the 2 cards? I should find them on TE right? I dont trust my dealers out here in Goa. They have their "I am a goan seller and i can charge anything i want" Tax and "Welcome to Goa" tax attached to it.

@Comp@ddict: You said performance neared 5850? isnt the 6850 a newer card?

You should go for a 6850. Although there may be performance increase in many cases up to a 6950 even, however, your CPU can't fully use even a 6850. So as the best bang for buck, go for a 6850. Better still, upgrade to a Core i5 2500k + 6950 2GB :p

For nVidia, get a GTX 460 1gb.

5850 is slightly faster than a 6850 and about 10-15% or so faster than a 460 GTX!

to switch to a core i5, i'll need to buy a new MOBO and new RAM as none of the stuff i have right now will be compatible. I am short on cash for that right now. I will upgrade soon though. But right now, I just want the card. Also as the Q6600 hasnt really caused me a problem anywhere. Apart from Bulletstorm where the game suddenly lagged once in a while, though I believe it was the graphics card n not the cpu.

If 5850 is better, shouldn't I go for that one then?

Did the game refuse to start...? And asked for some nVidia PhsyX components..? Or did it cause mid-way after successful launch.

@asingh: no it just refused to start. Tried it on a friend's HD4850.
@kartikoli: Less power? Itz a Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus/Duo something. 600W.

M strongly leaning towards the GTX460. M still not sure though. :-(

^^

Then you would have had to install a PhysX pack. It is available on nVidia's official site. Pick up the latest. PhysX enabled games check for the package at start up. That is about it.

You can thank nVidia for this beauty.

Yes, HD6850 is newer, but it was meant as a replacement of the HD5700 series, so performance in HD5850 range is a compliment to it's performance(and price/power consumption ratios too)

Also, kartikoli said he wont comment on the 600W psu. Will there will a power issue?

^^ In that case increase your budget and get a GTX560 Ti instead. No point in getting a old gen card now.

well, honestly you are an idiot. . . now dont reply to this comment LOL

GTX460 is old, and for the price HD6850 demolishes it, WHY? Performance is similar yeah, but boy the power consumption should alone make up for anything else(even if u aren't a save the world type, this sure helps ur electricity bills :p )

Call me whatever you want you rubber alien faced creature, but i'll still probably go for the nvidia. :-D
I read so much about all the phyx bottlenecking that happens on the ATI cards. If the performance is similar, i dont get why should I sacrifice phyx for better power consumption?
@Lord Nemesis: it will bottleneck on my Q6600?
