Hi,

My current system is P-III and want to get new AMD near about these details:-

  • Motherboard: MSI K8MM-V
  • AMD 3000+
  • DDR - 512 Mb RAM
  • 80Gb SATA HDD

I'm looking for the motherboard with good onboard graphics. Mentioned MSI
board is good? I don't know much about AMD systems, so if this is not good
choice, pls suggest better option. (tight budget - so pls don't mention high end
config)

get any board with 6100 or 6150 onboard graphics ... they are all good .... i will suggest u ASUS A8N-VM OR A8N-VM CSM

Whats your budget like softgeek? That will definitely help us help j00.

And if its very constrained, as it seems to be. Get the following components

AMD 3000+ Socket 939 = 6000

Asus A8V - MX = 2800

512MB DDR Ram = 1700

80GB SATA HDD = 2700

The above should cost only slightly more than what you have posted.

Raghu.

Amd Athlon 3000+ - 6100 (939)

Gigabyte K8N51GMF-9 - 4150 (939)

Twinmos/Transcend 512 - 2100

Samsung 80Gb 7200 - 2600

BenQ 1640 Dvd Writer - 2800

Atx Cabinet - 1500

Samsung 793s - 5500

Logitech Optical Combo - 800

APC 500 VA - 2000

Altec Lansing ATP3 - 2800

All prices are approx.

Thanks for reply guys...
Some more questions:-

  • In which motherboard (said diff models in this post) better future upgrade
    possibilities? If I'm not going wrong MSI K8MMV is with socket 754 interface,
    and I think socket 939 is more flexible.
  • Is there moderate onboard graphics solution in MSI K8MM-V?
  • I came accross some posts in other forum that AMD + nVedia sucks - not good, Is it true?

LOL Nvidia has the best chipsets for AMD. VIA sucks instead. The onboard graphics on any VIA chipset boards sucks a$$.

Make sure you go for Twinmos, Transcend, Kingston ram or any other ram with a 3 year warranty.

It costs only abt 100 - 200 bucks more but are really worth it as ram can fail anytime.

Also for keyboard/mouse go for microsoft as they come with a 3 year warranty.

I think Logitech also has a 3 year warranty, but their lower end models come with 1 year warranty. Could anyone disprove or confirm this ?

And finally the Gigabyte mbd that everyone is suggesting is the best motherboard for you at your budget.

You should definitely go for Socket 939 based Motherboards as they support latest Dual Core Processors, supports Dual Channel Memory Operation and supports Venice Core based processors which are based on 90nm Technology and hence satys quite cool. I will suggest the following configuration:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket 939) -> Rs. 5700/-
MSI K8NGM2-IL Motherboard (GeForce 6100 Integrated) -> Rs. 4400/-
Corsair Value RAM 512 MB 400 MHz DDR { Life Time Warranty } -> Rs. 2200/-
Seagate 80GB SATA HDD -> Rs. 2600/-
