Hi guyz,

As the thread title suggests, need help to overclock my quad to 3ghz+. I have achieved 2.92 GHZ but cannot cross that. The system is becoming totally unstable.

FSB - 325 Mhz
Vcore - 1.3 volt

Even at 330 Mhz, Prime 95 torture test fails within 15 minutes. At 340 Mhz, system wont boot up.

It seems like more vcore voltage is needed but in the Bios, I cannot see any way to increase the vcore. Any help regarding this? Temps are no problem because at 100% load, max. temp was 52C.

With FSB @325 Mhz, I have stress tested for 5 hours+ and all the tests passed. Do I need to stress test any longer to determine full stability?

Awaiting for your valuable suggestions.

Thanks.

ell, sounds about right, value ram I think, and the board is being stretched near it's FSB wall. It's a budget G31, don't expect too much.

And Q6600 is a 65nm quad, don't expect miracles in OCing. I would say hit 2.8GHz with a lower voltage and call it a day.

@damn

FSB : Dram = 1:1, so ram speeds are 650 Mhz. But I need a way to cross that 325 FSB.

@compaddict

I have it @2.9Ghz stable. Also, 1.3 volt voltage is not an issue because temps are very well under control. But I cant seem to find a way to increase/decrease the vcore voltage.

:(

BTW, anyone dint say if I need to run stability test for 12 hours +?

Hi guyz,

Ny more suggestions regarding my query?

Well, all I can say is your PSU, what's your PSU.

Do keep in mind your Q6600 might be pulling power off the charts right now

Guess you need more vCore in there. But if you cannot increase it, that is the wall for you.

Hmm, I think I need a new board. Which chipset should I get - P45? Also, I will get a second hand board only.

@compaddict

I use Corsair HX620 watt/Tagan BZ 800 watt only. So psu is not an issue.

I see, but are you sure?

I mean, do you really want to spend money on this platform? A much much better option is to stay with this for another while, save up for a processor and grab a SB combo or Bulldozer depending on which is better and when you buy it.

P45 chipset boards hit FSB wall much later(higher) so you can expect better OC. Yeah, try for 2nd hand.

I am saving up for a gpu + proccy + motherboard + cabinet combo. But at first, I want to use my current proccy at its full extent. Too bad that the sockets of the current gen proccys are different from my existing proccy else, I would have gone for a new motherboard first, use my proccy for another 1 - 1.5 years and then add new proccy.

Actually, I think my current proccy can still play all the games thrown towards it with high/very high settings. I dont do any processor intensive jobs thats why I dont feel to change my existing quad. What I need to change on a priority basis is my GTX 260.

:)
