Laptops Need help with Dell studio 15 rma (out of warranty) :(

Hi,

I had purchased Dell Studio 1555 laptop in August 2009, of which config is below :-

Intel C2D P8600 (2.40ghz/1066FSB/ 3MB cache)
Windows 7
15.6 FHD (1080p) WLED Display with Truelife.
4GB Dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM
500GB hdd
512MB ATI Radeon HD4570
9 cell battery

Now, my laptop has stopped working, there is no display, if I try to start the Laptop, only Backlight keyboard glows with no display on screen and it hardly takes 5 minutes to get heated up near the GFX area.

I tried to call Dell , and they told me to buy a "1 Yr. Break fix with NBD warranty upgrade" which costs 15000/- for repairing the laptop and 1 yr warranty (normal).

Kindly guide me what should I do now? a new laptop with same config cost around 30k I suppose, and they are asking 15k :( , Can anyone working in Dell from TE , help me with it? they are offering 6k for warranty extension but as mine is faulty, it goes to 15k, so can I avoid the recertification process??

You have to be very clever in this case, I just checked this with few of my friends.

First you should have extended the warranty and waited for a week before you call Dell and inform them about your laptops issue, so that it could be fixed for free as it is coming under warranty. But now you have already called them, and they must have logged this issue under your contact. So now they will charge you extra for repair. If it was a small issue then they must have resolved it for free based on something called "goodwill gesture".

I dont think it will be advisable to pay 15k for the laptop repair. Extend the warranty and try talking to some manager to get it fixed and cook some story up.
 
you cant avoid re-certification, No re-certification = machine will never come in warranty,

Even escalation to manager wont help,Question 1 ) Machine purchase date was known and Warranty entitlement was known, then why wasnt it extended ???

2) if this issue started while it was in warranty, why wasnt it logged then and there ?? , if the customer isnt interested to log a complaint, why will the company be ??

above 2 questions cant be answered hence, i dont think you have any other option
 
Dell is going NUTS now a days. My suggestion is:- Why spend Rs.15, 000/- for only a Graphic chip problem? Just send the Lappy to a reputed Laptop repairing center and get it fixed by re-balling the chip. Since you are from Mubbai, you must be knowing a lots of repairing center. Why bother with dell?

Just go to your local repair guy. Its nearing 3 years. Just fix and try to retain it for few months and get a new one after that.

Dell is going NUTS now a days. My suggestion is:- Why spend Rs.15, 000/- for only a Graphic chip problem? Just send the Lappy to a reputed Laptop repairing center and get it fixed by re-balling the chip. Since you are from Mubbai,

Why will Dell go nuts if you havent bothered to Extend warranty ??

I just want to clear some query :-

1) The reason I didnt took extended warranty while the laptop was in warranty period was, because I was thinking to buy a new one soon, but due to some money problem I am not able to buy a new one in the next 6 months or so, hence I need to some how manage without a laptop or use/repair current one.

2) I am not against Dell, and not saying that its Dell's fault, I am just asking if I should go for 15k repair with warranty or not.

3) I didnt call Dell with any problem/complain, I called them asking for quote for a new laptop and after getting quote for the same,while talking with Dell representative, I asked him if my current laptop can be brought back to life, and he gave me quote, so I dont think he had lodged and problem of my laptop in Dell's record as it was just normal Sales quote.

Today , he has reduced the price for warranty with recertification to 9954/- and confirmed to me that its just on the paper, and no one is going to come to my home to check the laptop. Also, he said that I can call Dell and lodge complain after 24hrs of my new warranty gets extended.

So, now do you people suggest to buy this new warranty for 10k? and also, is it possible to check if there is any information about my current laptop problem in Dell's record??
