CPU/Mobo Need help with dual channel memory

i have a transcend 512 mbb ddr 400 ram
when i added another 512 module its not running in dual channel mode
infact the speed dropped from 400mhz to 333mhz
when i ran cpuz it showed different latency timings for both the modules
could this be the problem?

when i went back to the retailer he said its becoz the new module was two sided and my old one was just one?
i am very confused :S
freinds plz advice

The other module u added has its clock speed at 333Mhz.

so when u try to run these two RAM modules the other RAM downclocks its frequency so as to match the others frequecy.

No the other module runs at 400mhz aswell

i checked it by only using this module on the mobo and it ran at 400mhz

the cas latency time for this module is 2.5

and for my other module is 3.0

is this the problem ?

Yes, your retailer is right. It will not run on dual channel if one chip is double sided and the other single-sided.

This is what MSI says:

MSI Reminds You...
- In dual-channel mode, make sure that you install memory modules
of the same type and density on DDR DIMMs.
- To enable successful system boot-up, always insert the memory
modules into the DIMM1 slots first.
- This mainboard DO NOT support the memory module installed
with more than 18 pieces of IC (integrated circuit).
- Do not support three memory modules.

^^Asolutely Correct Here are the rules for Dual Channel to work:

* DIMMs must be installed in pairs

* Both DIMMs must use the same density memory chips

* Both DIMMs must use the same DRAM bus width

* Both DIMMs must be either single-sided or dual-sided.

Intel specifies that motherboards should default to single-channel mode in the event of any of these being violated.
