Err why are you emphasizing on "SATA HDD" did it come with something else?

it has vista home editions pre install on it.

and has only one drive for eg:c

what he do is install win xp on it but he can't ?

i what i have told him select cd/dvd rom has 1st boot device.

but no use win xp does not start setup.

Your WinXP installation CD by default does not have/load the Sata drivers, bcuz of which XP will report an error saying "no hdd found". You will need to install using a a slipstream XP installation disk, If you are in B'lore i can give u some pointers...
Some imp links for you :

How To: Slipstream your XP installation - admin - Maximum PC

For you HP DV 6500 series u can try this, it will work with your model if u know ur base config, the same procedure will work for ur Sony but please be advised on the VAIO u may loose out on the extra multimedia buttons if any:

HP DV6500T Triple Play XP
Good Luck :cool2:

Hi there....

This situation sounds VERRYYY familiar to me....i just faced it a few days back when i tried getting rid of Vista.....

well u will be happy because the reason you are seeing a "HDD not detected" while trying to setup XP is because there is an option calle AHCI or ACHI ...something like that which is needed for Vista to operate enabled in the Bios.....Dissable that option....which in my case was named something like Robson in the bios....and you are good to go....Walla .....ur HDD is detected ...........
