Linux Need Help with Kubuntu 9.10 Live Disc

Level G
My HDD crashed yesterday thanks to bad sectors.

So, I used Kubuntu 9.10 Live CD to take backups. I managed to do that. I now want to perform a hard format a particular drive (or make the data unrecoverable) but I can't find the option. I remember something similar to Disk Manager in Ubuntu but couldn't find it in Kubutu.

Please help.

^Thanks for replying. I don't have HIren's Cd but Disk Wipe looks like the perfect tool for the job.

I was thinking of Converting the partition to ext3 or ext4 through kubuntu. I am sure either hard formatting will erase the data or corrupt the drive when it encounters a bad sector on that drive. If it would succeed then would switch it back to NTFS.

SO basically you want to send the HDD for RMA, then why so take all the hassle in wiping the HDD.

i doubt, if the RMA guys would look into the HDD for user data

^ ya mate, thats true:) , but wiping HDD usually takes time, and as your HDD as got bad sectors, wiping will suffer.

@CA50 - Thanks for replying.

I have a asked a friend to get his Ubuntu CD he should get it tomorrow. I will try formatting with that.

#prabs, Is your HDD of WD or Seagate.

AFAIK, WD have got some tools to zero-fill the HDD. Another thing that i suggest is blow up the partition table as well

@CA50 - It is a Seagate HDD. Gave it for replacement today. Thanks for providing the warranty link in the other post.
