Hi,

I need to build a rig that can run CAD/Solidworls/Pro Engineering and similar software with ease.

The only Components needed :

1. Processor.

2. Motherboard

3. GFX card

4. RAM

5. PSU+Cabinet.

6. 500GB HDD

7. DVD Writer.

Budget : 30000/-

Also, what is the deal with these Nvidia Quadro GFX cards? Are they specifically for these purposes?

PS : No AMD no ATI stuff.

Processor - Core i-5 760 ~ 9.8k

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 ~ 6.3k

GFX card - ZOTAC GT240 with CUDA DVI Audio 512 DDR5 ~ 4.85k

RAM - 4GB Corsair XMS3 Kit 1600Mhz ~ 4.1k

Cabinet - CM ELite 310 ~ 1.5k

PSU - Corsair CX400 ~ 2.7k

500GB Seagate HDD ~ 1.75k

DVD Writer ~ 0.9k

Total: 31.9k

If u cant extend ur budget by a penny then consider the Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2 mobo ~ 3.7k.

Thanks for replying,

If i make a few changes there, and go with i5 650(8.7k), and a cheaper motherboard (just need a basic one that connects all parts and can last long), how much better a GFX card can i get? Is GT240 gonna be enough? And what about the Quadro thing?

Quadro will be very expensive in comparision to a normal(High end) Gfx card

 i-5 650 is waste of money. The i-5 6xx series has the worst VFM among the current crop of desktop processors.(Unless u want a particular encrytpion format which only this series of processors has) Its a dual core only whereas the i-5 760 is a quad. Instead of i-5 650 the i-3 530~5k and i-3 540~5.2k are much better better options. They have slightly lesser clock, rest it matches the i-5 6xx spec for spec. (except turbo boost and the encrytion)
Reg. the GPu choice wait up for pros of ur field to reply. As harish says Quadros are very expensive.

Reg. the mobo the Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2 mobo ~ 3.7k is among the cheapest if not the cheapest H-55 mobo in the indian market.

Damn, i assumed an i5>i3. Miss the old nomenclature of C2D and C2Q. Thanks, i guess i'll go with i5 760, GA-H55M-S2. Regarding the GFX card, is GTX240 better than even a 8800GT? coz my current card 8800GT is pretty good.

If u have a 8800GT, thats good enough then :) The GT240 is on par or slightly less powerful than 8800GT. Better save up and go for a new one when u feel the need for it or the old one breaks down.

As u will have some cash left better go for the Corsair VX450 then as it comes with 5 years warranty compared to CX400's 3 yrs warranty.

P.S: Also there is a new builder series PSU CX430 from Corsair thats cheaper than CX400 but delivers lesser amps and has lesser warranty than CX400. So avoid that and dont go by naming scheme.

Since you have a decent gfx card, you can get a good motherboard, 1TB HDD, a good PSU and a case with decent ventilation in your budget.

You may get a GTS450 if you want to upgrade the gfx card.

Intel Core i5 760

ASUS P7H55 (ATX, 4x RAM slots, EPU for power saving, ...)

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

2x 2GB DDR3 1333MHz/1600MHz

1TB Seagate 7200.12

DVD Writer

Corsair VX450W

NZXT Gamma/Cooler Master Elite 430

Total- 30K approx

If you still want a very inexpensive motherboard, check ASUS P7H55-M LX (6x sideways SATA ports that won't get blocked by big gfx cards, DVI out for those who will use onboard gfx for LCD monitor- not applicable to you, ...)

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

Sry for the confusion, the 8800GT is my old card for my home PC. I'm making a new one for my dad's office. Just wanned to know how the other cards compare to 8800GT.
