Hi tried doing a repair of the previous installation of xp and it froze in between so i restarted and tried but same problem

so i did a fresh install.......now at boot up i get a choice to choose the os i wanna boot with

2 windows xp professional choices

how do i get rid of the second one??

Open C:\boot.ini in notepad and delete the duplicate entry which will be under [operating systems] section. Should be the second (non default) one.
 
it happens if you are isntalling on a drive other than the primary disk.. to just remove the prompt go to advanced computer properties, startup and recovery settings and uncheck time to display list of o/s
