WP Need info. before software upgrade

Today I might try to update sisters Lumia 730 to win 8.1 and thereafter to win10.
The update will be OTA on wifi.

Wanna know if data loss occurs during the upgrade??

Contacts, calendar, whatsapp,browser bookmarks and apps is something m worried about.
 
Data loss does not occur when you update from win 8 to 10 , but it is always preferred to reset phone once new version of win is installed . You can always backup WhatsApp to your email account and restore later .
Calender contacts and browser bookmarks get automatically restored without any hassles .

I have updated my BLU win hd LTE to win 10 from win 8.1 .

I must mention that WhatsApp was never installed on that phone so I cannot answer that question of yours for windows 10 .
On Android I have successfully restored backups from Google account after upgrading my android without any hassles , but I'm sure you are already aware of that .
