been looking for a decent digicam for sometime now..

I've seen some really good reviews on this baby..

DCRP Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3
Panasonic Lumix TZ3 - TrustedReviews

Its a compact..10X zoom..decent manual feature..nice picture/video quality..wat i like most is the sweet price point..
Available for as low as $205 at some stores..

Just wanted your opinion on this..what do you people think of this..the other camera that i was considering was the S5 IS..even though they are of totally different form factors, is there compelling reason for me to go for the S5 IS over the TZ3...i like TZ3 'cos of its relatively smaller size...

any other suggestions are also welcome :)

While this camera is better than many cameras out there and will give you nice pictures, its just a P&S camera with NO manual functions. If you want to learn photography, I would suggest the Canon Powershot S5 IS. Which has a full Auto mode and also S, A ,P , M modes to help you get more control over your shot.

+1 for S5IS. coz it has a bigger lens which leads for more light to come in and also it gives more control and is offers features similar to a DSLR.

If you can up your budget try to go for an entry level DSLR like nikon D40/canon 350D with the kit lens. In Delhi the 350D is available for 24500 with bill and Nikon D40 is available for 21K without bill.

Even an entry level DSLR will beat the best compact hands down.

and lastly dont get into the megapixel war. a 6MP cam is more than enough for taking out 10" x 6.5" inch prints in hi-resolution.

I don't have this particular camera, but I do have a Panasonic Lumix camera DMC L72 , and it is a great camera and well made. These lenses are as good as the Zeiss and are well thought of by the professional industry, if you want a little more general background on models, check out the Wiki here. I bought mine about 3 years ago prior to taking a trip, I love my Lumix camera, it is the best camera I have owned.

If size is what you want then get the Canon SX100. Offers manual features too.

Else the TZ3 is a very good camera too. Have read only positive notes about it (except the lack of manual controls)

At the moment, one can get the S5 IS for as low as $290 which makes it good buy!

TZ3 is a very sweet digicam- best feature is the 28-280mm Leica Lens and equally good is its compact almost pocket able size. Canon SX100 is one and half times the volume and has 36-360MM zoom lens ( virtually hardly wide ) S5IS while good, is a huge digicam- three times of volume of TZ3 and then again the wide is 35mm ( hardly wide ). at $ 205- the TZ3 is a steal.
