Need inputs to backup my Sony VAIO

Guys, I just received my Sony Laptop today. Obviously m not happy with the inbuilt Windows 7 home and wanna upgrade to win7 Ultimate and MacOS. Need the below Info:

Laptop Model: Sony VAIO VPCEG25EN (i3 processor, 2GB RAM, Intel HD)

Questions:

  1. How can I take a backup of the current OS so thatif I want I can recover later on. If so, Do I take a backup on DVDs or USB Harddrive?
  2. As of now there is just one drive contaiining all 320GB space and has OS installed in it. I plan to make 3 partitions (50, 50, 190). When I do a recovery will I be able to install on a drive which is only 50 GB (Asking as the backup would be taken from a 320GB drive)
  3. I like the widgets which have been placed OOTB from Sony and the look and feel. Is it possible to get the same look when I install Windows from my end?

Thanks a lot Guys

1) Just leave the recovery partition as it is, then you can recover/restore your windows anytime to factory conditions just by one click. (Vaio care)

2) "Recovery" will install OS onto your current system partition. Plus if you do factory reset, it will delete all your data and restore the laptop as you recieved (who wants to do that?).

3) You talking about toolbar which pops down on taking cursor?

1. The issue is when I try to install MAC OSX...I need to reformat the entire HDD in a different format so I think I would have to delete the recovery partition also:(

2. Didn't get what u said in the first part. But for the second part...i don't mind reseting everything to the way when I received the laptop:)

3. Spot on!!! I mean exactly that:)

1) Well I don't have any experience about Mac, but this sounds absurd to me that to install a OS you need to format whole HDD (including all partitions as you're saying).

2) Sorry about the first part, actually it was a typo :P corrected now, read. And if you're ready to factory reset your laptop (with knowledge that it would delete ALL your data), then tinker with your laptop in any way you want, and just reset it any time you want :). But for to be one safe side, I'd suggest you to burn recovery media and keep it always as the last option.

3) A Vaio lapotp comes with many its softwares installed also termed as "bloatwares" (as most of them are of not any use). One of them is Vaio Gate. Thats the soft which brings that toolbar like pop down. :) Here's the link of it if you want to download- http://download.sony-asia.com.edgesuite.net/vaio/downloads/462207a/EP0000253294.exe. Though, using Vaio care you can install the original drivers and softwares/bloatwares any time you want. That's the best part of recovery I like :).
