iOS Need little help with unlocking iPhone 4S.

I'm a android guy, but what i mean unlocking here for iOS is using any network's sim here in India.

A friend of mine who lives in another state here in India is asking me to unlock his 4S and I have only operated Apple devices which come unlocked with Apple India's warranty, so i have no idea how to do this or if it's even possible.

Do let me know what is needed to be done, should I ask him for serial number or what carrier was his phone on. He doesn't have much knowledge about this stuff and I being in remote city, is kinda difficult to know this stuff anyways. Does the serial number on an iPhone ? or the carrier's logo on iPhone's ? guessing this just coz , this happens with android handsets most of the time except Sprint.

Anyways, help ?
 
Factory unlocking can be done in lots of places. Usually they charge anywhere between 2000-8000 depending on the network they are locked to. Sprint phones are harder to unlock. You can also use an Rsim to unlock the phone. Its much cheaper than getting it factory unlocked.

Yeah, I have heard of 2k-4k charge for unlocking, but can't we do it ourselves here from the webs?
