I was looking for a way to make my Tikona WiBro accessible on both my PC as well as my Laptop.
As it happens, Tikona normally offers you a router/modem which will be connected to your PC via the usual Cat5 cable.
This router in itself is a wireless one, meaning you don't have any hassles of
wiring etc.
But if you need to use this on a laptop, they ask you to go for a add-on
TIKONA WI-BRO @ll_HOME/OFFICE SOLUTION (Add-On Pack)
Item Rs.
One Time Installation Charges - 300
Usage Charges/Month - 50
I didn't want to do that since I already had a Netgear router.
When I called up their technical support, they said that it is
"Impossible to use Netgear etc" and the only solution was to go for their
Home/Office Solution Pack.
As it turns out, they like every other ISP in India (Airtel,Tata,Sify)
do not like to support any router other than their own, due to whatever reasons.
Personally I think, they don't support because the people on tech support
( I am talking about L1 support guys/ gals) don't really know anything about anything, anyways it is very simple to get it working with Netgear.
Just follow the steps below.
1,Connect the output of the Tikona router to Netgear Internet input,
Connect the Netgear Lan output to your PC via cat5 cable.
2,In your Netgear wireless settings page, select
Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login? as No
Internet IP Address, select automatic
3,
Save and reboot Tikona and Netgear routers.
4,You can now use your PC to use the Tikona connection via Netgear.
When you open the browser, It will take you to a Tikona login page.
Just put in your Tikona User/Password and log inside.
Presto you are done ...
You can now use your laptop to connect to this and surf.
However the one caveat that remains is, you can't use the Tikona account both on your PC and Laptop at the same time .
I haven't found a way to get around that bit yet, using just netgear.
If somebody else does manage to do that, kindly post that bit here.
