From the May 09 Price Guide:

Motherboard: Biostar TA790GXB - 4.5k
Processor: AMD X2 7750+ - 3.6k
RAM: Transcend 2x2GB DDR2 800MHz - 2.2k
GPU: Onboard N.A.
HDD: Seagate 250GB ST3250310AS SATAII - 2.3k
Cabinet: Zebronics Bijli ATX - 1.1k
SMPS: Zebronics Real Power 360W - 1.5k
Optical Drive: L.G. GH22NS30 SATA/Samsung SH-S22F SATA - 1.1k
Monitor: Dell S1909W 19" LCD - 6.5k
Keyboard: Samsung Pleomax - .2k
Mouse: Logitech Optical - .4k

I do not want the speakers. Following are my doubts:

1. Does this config still hold good (In July)?
2. Or are there any recos (to do with proc/mother board/cabinet/smps), in the same price range?
3. I would be going for a 500 gb hdd in lieu of the 250 gb one. makes sense?
4. w.r.t monitor, which is the smallest size where one can get a full HD model?
4. how easy / difficult is it to get these from s.p. road, bangalore?

thanks in advance,
ashwin

a quick suggestion, cut down RAM to 2GB and upgrade to Phenom II X2 550 from 7750. 2GB will suffice and 550 is wayyyyyyyy better than 7750 but costs only 1.5k more.

Answers:
1. Yes, this still holds good.
2. Opt for the Athlon II X2 250 instead. Its basically the Phenom II X4 with 2 cores disabled which gives a significant improvement over the older architecture.
3. Keep the 250GB as it won't fetch you much. Get the 500GB as well. Get the ones based on 7200.12 architecture which gives a huge performance improvement over the previous generation 7200.11, I'd say Seagate (because I only have experience with this brand), though you could buy any brand based on 7200.12
4. My friend recently bought the BenQT2209W which is a 22" Widescreen Monitor of resolution 1920x1080 which is Full HD. The minimum you should go for is 22" as it has become quite cheap nowadays.
5. It is very easy to get these things from SP Road. Also Check out other places like Computer Warehouse at Barton Center, M.G. Road. (find their pricelist at Computer Warehouse Online - Buy Computers, Computer Parts, Computer Accessories, Laptops and Electronics), Glasgow computers on Brigade road. I also found this nice place at Domlur - Pronet Services (behind Shanthi Sagar). Check it out.

No mate, Athlon II X2 250 is not a Phenom II series with disabled 2 cores. Then it would be called Phenom II X2 250 r8 ? search and you will find your answer. Athlon II has a completely different architecture than Phenom II. :)

@OP,

grab the Phenom II X2 550. You will definitely thank me. I own it and with 2GB RAM, its more than enough. I play COD4, CRYSIS and no problem due to shortage of RAM . :)

Try playing Crysis with the additional RAM. you will definitely notice the difference :)

790G based gigabyte or asus are available but they are pricey. Biostar should be available unless its a remote town.
