Windows Need solution for Hyper V backup

We have Hyper V configured in our co. environment.

We have been asked to implement a backup procedure for Hyper V.
P2v(Physical to Virtual) backup technique.

I dont know if this is possible coz virtual to physical V2P is quite possible using windows backup tool.
And also we can backup the .vhd/.vhdx files and related folders.

But our main concern is how to do P2V.

Yeah I went through Veeam backup yesterday but my co. is pretty kanjoos and all they want is a Free tool to do all this.

Well, its easy then, use the free tool, simulate a disaster and see what happens.[DOUBLEPOST=1461829683][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, Veeam has a free version - use that.

@vivek.krishnan what we need to fulfill following criteria:

  1. Each week, a full ghost like image/backup needs to be created of each physically hosted servers.
  2. And during crisis time when such servers fail for any reasons, then a new HyperV machine will be created based on these backup images will be start instantly thus providing less downtime and reconfiguration pain.

So the query is, in what format or extension do the backup or imaging file needs to be for working with HyperV?

I know it should be .vhd or.vhdx but will any other format will do and later convert to .vhd or.vhdx?

And most importantly: Can we take anyd rives backup or image in such format so as to use it with hyperv?

I already got Veeam backup but will it help me achieve this task?

just take disk images and use virtual box tools to convert them to any disk format. create vms and test. I know I should give some more intelligent answer to this but I am lazy.

What virtual box tools you referring to? Are you referring to Oracle VM VirtualBox?
