Well what is the process and formalities required for getting a bsnl broadband connection.
Also I dont need and neither already have any landline connection from bsnl.

take the airtel broadband na...they don't charge you a landline rental if you opt for one of their full time connectivity schemes....

AFAIK, BSNL will charge you the rental + the bb charges....why pay for the voice connection when u don't need it...

The airtel guys will do the job faster

bsnl broadband will require you to have one landline connection.

the broadband form has an option to install a new connection.

only data transfer option is not available with bsnl.

if you are planning to opt for bb at work place then you must have to choose business plans means
700/-(for bb) + 160/- (for incoming only sulabh plans) plus taxes
if for home replace 700 with 250/-

^^ Actually for airtel too, you need to have a landline....

For me, this is how it went:

500/- towards installation etc. is what I paid for getting the connection....

And now I need to pay 500/- pm for a 256 kbps connection (unltd till Nov, 1 GB cap after that)

The voice connection comes free and you need to pay for whatever phone calls you make on top of this 500/-...In other words, the phone doesn't carry any rental.....

However, if you are renting a modem from airtel, that's nother 99/- pm

As for the formalities, I called em up and they sent a sales rep to get the form filled...they needed 1 prrof of address (I gave my bank statement)...and a check for 500/-

next day, they installed it....

You better opt for airtel. Its very good and far more better than BSNL. I have used BSNL from Feb till july had very bad experience. I wouldn't reccomend BSNL no matter whatever offer they give. No.1 Worst customer Care Award Winners(the day when they started the service to till date).

Well my options are---
tata indicom... 1500/- PM for unlimited and initial charges of 2K or so for connection. but ive heard that their service is pathetic than reliance.

Reliance... 1500/- PM for sucky speeds and initial charges of 2K or so. you just heard me they are pathetic.

Airtel... I have already applied for it and made the initial payment and after a month they tell me that they cant gimme a connection coz they cannot cross the road and will be returning my cheque.

So guess what I am left with.... yes you are right its BSNL.

Then i think you can settle for that, good download speed. But do tell us your experience after using it for say about 3 months( If you use for that long, my friend used it for a month and gave it up). Also tell me how much days they took to give thier service after you register, it took me a month. anyway all the best man.

better stay with dialup. Get a unlimted connection and enjoy. You will pay a lot less and you will download a lot more.

Wait 2-3 months. I am sure the prices of bb will come down by next year start.

I dont get you safin, u mean to get a unlimited Plan from an ISP provider and download a lot? I think it'll make him pay in 1000s coz he have to pay for the time he spends online in the normal dial up.

get a internet-only dialup access line from BSNL for 500 bucks per month . its unlimited usage so you dont have to pay more than 500 per month . then get Tata indicom ( vsnl ) 1 year or lesser unlimited dialup packages .. so 1 year is about 2800 bucks , 2800 + (500x12) = 8800 or something LOL . but alll at sucky dial-up speed ;)
