As you can see in my signature my pcb of my 80 gb hard disk is shorted.
Went today to accel frontline they for the first time checked the hard disk in front of me with a multimeter saying the pcb is shorted .
To that i asked then y cant they accept it since i or anybody will not gain any benefit shorting it . If there is something wrong in it then the hard disk will go bad. To that they suggested me to shoot a mail to their head office to explain the matter and if they get convinced they might accept. So the experienced guys or gals (if any) who have got it done please give me a heads up of what to write and what not to write.
Thanks in advance :)

hmm.. seems to be strange.. when i went to rma my 2x 1tb drives, which i had dropped by mistake..... accel ppl didnt even care to ask me what was the issue in detail... i just told them, they are not working and they accepted it and gave me my repalcement after 2 weeks..

Ya even i got it done last time like that. But i saw specific instructions being given to them to check the hard disks before submitting to rma

check for Seagate's new RMA policy for year 2010, they enforced some new pre check guidelines before acceptiing for RMA.

So the lesson learnt is one should rma a seagate drive only when it is running in perfect condition i guess or else the warranty will be rejected. :@

Lesson learnt the hard way!

Always invest in a good power supply - we keep telling the masses. :)

In any case, do mention in the subject of the mail you intend to send to the top heads of Seagate that, you had a system with xyz configuration - mention complete specs and include a decent enough power supply (yeah you have no choice but to lie now!). And that the hard drive did not boot one fine day and you took it to the nearest Accel office and they had asked you to mail the heads intimating that this was a special case as the hard drive PCB appeared shorted. Wait for a response.

If you do not get a positive response, forget it. Assuming you do not have any valuable data in it, invest in a better drive. If you can find the very same drive, swap the PCBs of the drives, recover the data from the drive and trash it.

The email id is to be addressed to the top heads of accel frontline. So wanted a some guidelines (maybe some who had done it successfully)
As for the data there was nothing special in it just installed games on it . Have their setup so not a big issue. Wanted to make sure that i do not mess it up since it would be my first time correspondence. Will try your method.
Also there is no visible physical damage. It is only when they've checked with multimeter they inferred that pcb is shorted.
