Hi Guys

I was going to order Lost on DVD from Ebay US and suddenly it struck me abt the region settings! Can I play a region 1 DVD on My LG DVD Player? I dont rem the model but its around 2 years old and I remember the LG guys telling me it plays all dvds. In India do we have region based dvds? I thought here they were region free or Region 0.

Thanks

Also I wanted to know the pirated dvds in pallika are they any region specific? You know all those four in ones etc. My macbook dvd region setitngs can only be changed 5 times and if I change to Region 1 as default on the macbook will it play those pallika dvds?

u will be able to play those palika DVD's but if u run the ameriacan DVD's for 5 times ur DVD region will be set to 1, and then u will not be able to run the desi DVD's

The DVDs from pallika are not region coded because they are pirated. :ohyeah: :ohyeah:

The DVD region of a DVDROM drive in a computer can be changed for 5 times and then it gets locked to the last region played, but you will still be able to play region free (pirated) DVDs.

You can only know if you DVD player is region free, by playing region coded DVD. :hap2:

Yep, India comes under Region 5. Not too sure if DVDs here actually come encoded under Region 5.

If your DVD player is Region-free, then you should have no issues. Do note that most DVD players have certain key-press sequences that make them Region-free if necessary, so if you know your model number you should have no difficulty finding the necessary key-press sequence. BTW I assume you're talking about stand-alone DVD players and not DVD-ROM drives ?

Pirated DVDs are never Region encoded as that would defeat the entire purpose ;)

Thats not correct - you can play DVD's from a particular region any number of times. Its only if you *change* the Region setting in your DVD drive settings, will it get locked after 5 times. However even this has a work-around either in the form of Region-free firmware, or via region bypass software tools.

Hi Thanks for the replies :)
So looks like I can play the american dvd as many time on my macbook once i switch the settings to region 1. Also the macbook would have no problems playing pallika dvds even in region 1 settings.

As for my LG DVD Player (standalone) I should have no hassles as I rem being distinctly being told that it plays all region dvds. BTW all the current dvd players in India can play any region dvd right?

I have heard of flashing the rive but dont wanna risk it since Apple void warranty!

Hi
me again!
I chkd my LG DVD Player (DV1177P) and there is an illustration of a globe with 5 written on it. Does that mean it supports Region 5 dvds or it plays 1,2,3,4,5 region dvds? I had an old batman movie whihc my cuz bought from singapore way back and it said region 3. It played fine on LG DVD Player and of course my macbook requested me to change the code.

So shall I bid on the american dvd? do you think it wud play without hassles on my beaten up LG Dvd player?

Yep you should be able to play US/Region 1 DVDs as many times as you want after setting Region 1 for your Macbook ! Same holds for your pallika DVDs.

No, not all DVD players in India are Region free, but quite a bunch come configured as Region free. If your dealer assured you it was region free, you should hopefully have no problems. As I mentioned earlier, you most likely would find a key-press sequence to unlock and make it Region-free *just in case*.

Flashing the drive is an option, but thats why you have the software based alternative like someone mentioned - DVD Region+CSS Free, in case flashing your drive isnt possible.

Edit: Just read your previous reply, that looks like it should be Region-free :)
