Hi friends, i am looking for headphone upgrade.

My budget is up-to 22k

i currently have shure 940, hd 25 i ii, looking for open headphone this time, looking something

below 300 ohm

please give some recommendation

What sort of sound signature are you looking for dude. There are a lot of headphones that you can get in that price range.

Just curious as to why it is 22k and not a round figure like 20k or 25k

hi bennysachdev, i going to pm you, but you responded here, you always give good suggestion

actually this time i am looking for open head-phone with warm sound signature, have heard a lot about open design and their good sound stage, also should be good in bass as my shure 940 lacks in bass

@ indy1811 , actually i was going for hd650 which i am getting in 22-23k but later thought to get opinions , so i have written 22k

No problem helping you out right here bro. If anybody else has the same requirement in the future, I'll just refer them to your thread

The HD650 is warm and has plenty of bass. Also the vocals are really smooth and lush. All this, but the only thing is that you need a really good amp to juice this baby up. Else the bass won't really sound full. You'll get a lotta volume, but you won't get a full sound unless you hook it up to a quality amp. Same with a HD600.

Please mention what is your source/amp.

Whatever happened to this thread?

regarding last thread, accepetd your suggestion and bought the denon d2000 but couldn't get the Audinst HUD-MX1, so sold those to my friend at same price. also i wanted to try other headphones.

now i have hrt streamer 2 and fiio e11 will get e17 in future, so looking somthing to match this set-up, as you already have hd600, how is it with fiio e17

i am hesitating for hd650 because of high impedace 300 ohm, don't want to invest in amp for now.

i can also go for d2k again as d2k will be best for my current setup

can you give some view for d2k vs hd650/hd600

is there options other than d2k and hd650

today i have get fresh price quote for d2k and hd650

d2k - 14k

hd650 - 23.5k (price increased since jan)

what will you suggest now

You have a lot of other options like the Sr225i(analytical), DT880(comfortable, slightly warm), DT990(comfortable, brighter than the DT880), AT-A900(awesome bass & comfort), AD900(analytical, bass light), AD1000(analytical, bass light) just to give you a small idea. There are of course more detailed reviews available on TE as well as on head-fi.

The Hd600 sounds decent on the E17 but it doesn't make it really sing. The HD600/650 require a really good amp to make it sound as smooth and refined as it can sound. Otherwise you can get a HD600/650 now and upgrade your amp in the future. But you won't be doing it justice until you get a good amp for it. If you feel that you won't be doing that, then any of the above mentioned cans will do well with a HRT MS2 -> Fiio E17.

If bass and warmth is what you seek(although I don't blame ya cuz the HRT MS2 does sound treble happy at times to me), look at something like the AT-A900, HD650(with a good amp), D2k/D5k, DT880 in that order. Out of which A900, DT880 and Denons would do fine with your current rig but the Senns would require an amp.

Tbh I feel the E17 sounds better than any other portable amp I have tried. It may not have the best sound signature, but the dac section, build quality, the bass and treble control make it an amazing package.

D5k is slightly better than the D2k, better in all terms. While the HD600 and HD650 are almost on the same level. Just that the HD600 is more neutral sounding and the HD650 is slightly warmer sounding.

The denons would pair better with your current amp. Personally I feel my D5000 is better than all headphones I've tried for the kind of music I listen to. There are a lot of other headphones that I would like to own, but they will just be different. Not better. And this just applies to me. YMMV, of course. The bass quantity is plenty, it doesn't overpower the mids at all. The mids are clear and distinct. Vocals are very well pronounced and clear. Treble is smooth and not harsh like a couple of ultrasones I had tried.

There will always be other headphones that do better mids like the LCD2 does or a better soundstage like the HD800 renders but all that is purely subjective. Or even headphones that make Celine Dion sound like she is god sent(HD650)...lol.

thanks for the suggestions, currently d5k not available here, also it is expensive in India 30+k

finally ordered d2k for very good price 14k

now i will upgrade my amp first before going further headphone upgrade

i am not sure if you will get the Audio Technica W series in this range. they are headphones with polished mahogany wood covers .. and should have a warm sound signature. (just my assumption) i have the AD700, but the W series are way out of budget for me.

Thanks lavii, I would appreciate it. If you have an email address\website as well, that would be great!

number sent to both of you

there is no website, i contected him directly and start dealing, he has also listed some product on ebay but ebay fee will be extra, when you call him, mention my name

where are u getting HD650 for 22000 Rs i am willing to purchase

23.5k as price has increased since jan 2012, there are many distributor in nehru place , call them and negotiate

got the d2k today

these are really shining with hrt2 and fiio e11, very glad with the d2k purchase again

@bennysachdev , does Jmoney pads make significant improvement as compared to stock pad

He 650 have a very loveable sound but you have to have an amp with good synergy with it .

Also, the sound is slightly grainy ( compared to other competitors ) as I remember you did not like the k702, cant be sure If you will like the ad900 or dt880. My suggestion is that you try to audition someone's hd650 , am not in NCR otherwise you could have tried them .

Looking back , not so long ago you got the shure , so this probably won't be your final upgrade, it would be better if you can save and get something like lcd2 / he500 . LCD 2 share the signature with hd650 , with much more clarity , but a bit smaller soundstage.

Edit : a bit late, just saw last message

Yes the Jmoney pads make a good enough difference. I think they are really worth the price. It takes the drivers away from the ears to say the least and that itself gives a better bass and improved sound stage.
