Need suggestion for Multiplayer game @ work

Folks at my office are planning to have a multiplayer tournament.

Theme - Teamwork

Q3 Arena has been suggested and looks like a good pick. Let me list out the problems:

  1. Q3 is not so easy for non gaming folks
  2. Licensing: Gotta be non pirated copies :(
  3. Licensing: I tried looking for some volume licensing option. Looks like ID dont have one in India.
  4. Team Fortress: I'll try talking to CGS guys. Funds is the problem in this case. If too much is spent on licensing alone...they might cancel it altogether
  5. No NFS/Racing games as they don't fit the Theme
Can you guys think of something better? Free if possible. Better if its easy for everyone to pick up and play?

IIRC the first version of CS was free.. even the original Team Fortress was a free mod - also - how about diablo co-op - it has a spawned install option.

I think there are a couple of PhsyX enabled fps's that are free - they were used to showcase the Ageia card...
 
counter strike 1.6 is not exactly free :)
but its pretty cheap...and a 5 on 5 format for TEAMWORK :D
and btw, you talk about non-gaming folks.... there are no such people :)
 
Fear combat ,americas army and Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is what you have as an option . Else pick up a copy of little fighter 2 :) .
 
How can you forget Urban Terror. This game absolutely rocks. It run on low spec machines and still looks good. It's kind of hybrid of CS and Q3. It's a free but pretty polished games. I swear, it even gives my favourate TF2 a huge competition.

no those were not fee :P the mods were free, but you needed a copy of halflife to run those on too :bleh:

Pick up CS for around 300 a copy. KMD might even give u some discounts on that :D

Both CS as well as the original halflife multiplayer too, my fav :)

Uh LOL....no way!

This is what we have

Pentium D 3.0 Ghz

1GB RAM / 512 MB

ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 - 128 MB

we want a game which everyone can pick up and play. Quake seems easiest so far...aim and shoot. TF is more on the fun part. CS style games have the problem that not everyone is familiar with the map. Basic idea is to have fun + Teamwork rather than being good at graphics.

This is the list I'm looking at. Can any point the better ones from these? And ofcourse stable ones
