hey guys iam thinking about getting a 10000rp raptor hard disk i have no idea about thier pricing and which brand to go for please advise my budget is around 6000Rs and i want a storage space of atlest 500gigs so please help

wd black is overall better performer than seagate 7200.12

wd black is 7200 rpm drive & max capacity available for raptor drive is 600 gb

for 6k, best 10k RPM drive you can get would be less than 100gig. for 8k-9k, you can get 150gig HDD. you can check WD Velociraptor and Seagate Cheetah. Else you can just pick dual 500gig Seagate 7200.12 HDDs for 2.5k (approx) each and put them in RAID for some blazing speeds.

wow i never realised that the 10,000rpm hdd's were this costly if i were to go for a 10krpm hdd which company would you the will be the best seagate or WD

this I need to check with sysadmins in my company. will get back to you tomorrow.

@OP: What are you intending to store in the space? OS and some of the important applications? The Intel X25-V 40GB SSD offers about 37GB of usable space and beats the velociraptors in every benchmark. However, they are not suitable for applications which seeks the drive continuously for constant writes. Techshop.in has priced ut <7k IINM. Do consider SSD as an option as well.

^ i totally agree with you.

if OP wants the HDD just for sheer speed then 40GB SSD is to go for.

it will cost you around 7k.

if OP wants balance between Space & Performance then WD 1TB Black is the Best Choice available now..

i think it will be two 7200.12 in raid or WD black i can safely rule out SSD's as i intend to constantly game which requires continuous read/write cycles and one more question vlociraptor to WD is to what for seagate

thanks for the inputs but 40gb at 6.5k is mind blowingly costly

Savvio/Cheetah to Seagate. These are SCSI based drives and requires a separate controller altogether. Not meant for non-commercial installations. Those cost a bomb needless to mention!
