Hi all

I am planning to buy 1 TB internal hard disk (preferably Seagate) for normal every day storage purpose. I currently have a 320 Gb SATA Seagate installed in my pc. Can any one suggest which model (rpm/ cache) would best suit my requirements. Sorry I am complete noob regarding PC hardware.

Thanx in advance...

If you see, people faced problems with Seagate as well as WD. so both of them are not reliable. the only benefit with 7200.12 is that you get somewhat better A.S.S from seagate than WD. FYI, WD is taking months for RMA of HDD's.

If you are looking for reliability go for enterprise drives RE3/RE4 from WDD and be ready to pay the premium price.

BTW the current model is ST31000524AS for 7200.12

The current model which i am talking about is 528as only.

BTW , series in the sense i didnt mean the 7200.12. I meant the ST31000xxxxx. Hope you got it...

At the moment it is better to invest in a 2x500gb rather than a 1x1TB. The 500gb ones are more reliable when compared to the 1tb and 2tb ones. May be the 2tb LP ones are in par with the 500gb when it comes to failure rates...

IMHO 1 TB drives are reliable enough both seagate and WD, the problem was with high capacity drives specially WD 2TB green. If you get a bad drive you will know with in few days of purchase.
As only high end mobo support 6-8 sata ports ,its better to buy at least 1 TB drives.

Hmm... I have seen that higher capacity drives are more prone to failure...

I prefer to have 2 500GB Drives instead of a single 1TB drive...

But then, it is just my belief... :p
