PC Peripherals Need suggestions for a scanner to convert my photo negatives to digital format

Hey guys.

My dad has more than 100 reels of negatives lying around which he wants to convert to digital format.

I know there are scanners available to do the same but I have no idea about their cost and result quality.

Here are some scanners I found which are available in India.

I have experience with scanning 35mm negatives, but that was some years back. At that time the scanners with adapters for 35mm film was not that good in scanning the film compared to dedicated scanners made for the job like these: http://www.photographyreview.com/Film+Scanner/pls_3126crx.aspx.

A good one like this will set you back by around more than 40K. Quality between this and the flatbed scanner adapter is like day and night (at that time).

I do not have any idea how these new ones work now. So the advice I give you is to ask the company for some place where you can see a demo of the scanners. Once you see the final output and price then you can make the decision yourself.
