I want to purchase a 2TB hdd. Done some homework and it seems seagate free agent goflex and WDD passport are the ones to command the market. I am more inclined towards seagate since i had good experience with them. The go flex 2TB 3.5 inch is costing something 5.5k. Now does this 3.5 inch comes with a power adapter like the ones which were availble with Maxtor. I want portability so if this 3.5 inch comes with only 1 power cable(for both data and electric supply) would go for it. Else i would have to go for 2.5 inch 1TB.
Any suggestions and ideas as to what should i go for? Thanks..

Re: Need suggestions regarding 2TB HDD

^^ They are newer series Seagate Go-Flex 1TB models, these come with a single SATA-to-USB 2.0 proprietary connection, this is available for ~4400/- + taxes in Bangalore -- I think they are 2.5 inch drives (as they are the same size as older Seagate 500GB external hard drives.

You can purchase additional connectors SATA-to-eSATA, SATA-to-FireWire, SATA-to-USB 3.0 for additional charge of ~1500/- -- 2500/- per connector depending on your needs. Hope this helps. Theitdepot - Seagate Freeagent Go Flex 1TB Passport Ext HDD(STAA1000301)

Re: Need suggestions regarding 2TB HDD

The 3.5 inch external goes by the name of Seagate Freeagent and comes with a bulky power adapter and in no way can be said to be portable. These are primarily used for data storage/backup. If portability is what you are looking for then look no further than the Seagate Go-flex series which has a 2.5 inch hdd. It can be connected directly to the USB port and no power adapter is required. As far as I know, Go Flex comes in 1TB and less only. Go flex is also USB 3 ready, hence making it future proof when USB 3.0 will be more prominent.

Re: Need suggestions regarding 2TB HDD

By the way i should mention that 2 TB GoFlex External was priced at Rs 4.8k [ quoted at a shop in Kolkata ] ... i bought an Internal one for 4k , but if i had the money could've definitely considered that one .. it does have a power cable , and calling it portable would be unfair to the 2,5" Drives :)

Re: Need suggestions regarding 2TB HDD

I think what everyone is talking about is the FreeAgent GoFlex...i have the free Agent Desk it has a 5 year warranty and almost all the features needed in any External HDD...the only problem would be with the usb3.0...the goflex have an adapter that can be used to convert their normal usb 2.0 ports to 3.0 this is not possible with the FreeAgent Desk HDD...but then again you have the 5 years warranty :D

This will help you out:

Depending whether you prefer Seagate or WD, both offer good quality external HDD's at affordable cost. Check these links out.

Flipkart.com: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 3.5 inch 2 TB: External Hard Drive

Flipkart.com: WD Elements 3.5 inch 2 TB: External Hard Drive

You can also have a look at other brands http://www.flipkart.com/computers/external-hard-disks. Perhaps some others could also comment on the quality of products apart from seagate and Wd.
