The topic being self descriptive :)
I live in mumbai and my minimum requirements are:

1. 3.7 inch screen( resolution WVGA )
2. Camera : 5 mp with flash(720p recording preferred but not essential)
3. 800-1 ghz processor
4. Android 2.2 either out-of-the-box or upgradeable
5. Battery backup of at least 1390 mAh

The 720p video recording capability,is not vital as my faithful ipod touch 4g 32 gb never leaves my side :).

The question is....should i purchase one right now, or wait for the dual cores to become more commonplace, and the prices of the single cores to drop?

In the order of decreasing preference :

1. Samsung Galaxy SL I9003

2. Motorola Defy

3. SE Xperia X10

There is no point in waiting as your budget is not enough for the dual-cors & I don't think that the prices of higher-priced phones are going to dip very soon.

Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 - Flash missing. Best price - 18.5K

HTC Desire S - BEST Option (with 768 MB RAM) Get it from letsbuy with ICICI 10% discount coupon - Buy HTC Desire S at Best Price in India .. approx 21K

Motorola Defy - currently Eclair, 2.2 expected soon. Cheapest option - 15.2K

PS: If you wait the prices are bound to fall by 2-3K as prices stabilise, but its a cat and mouse game and you can wait forever.

EDIT: Correction - Motorola Milestone 2 is not available in India.

Hmm...out of the above-mentioned Smartphones....The Desire S seems to be the most tempting option(with gingerbread and all). However mind explaining how the ICICI discount coupon works?....I I don't have an ICICI account....however my sibling does.

Need to tell him the exact procedure.]

P.S.: ive heard pretty negative reviews about motorola smartphone and their non existent upgrade prospects...but for that price isn't too bad...considering its nearly indestructible.

I would recommend you use the coupon @ this thread - http://www.techenclave.com/hot-deals-and-discussions/letsbuy-com-deals-and-coupons-186393.html for 2K discount and choose COD.

For ICICI, you would have to pay online but you would get 2300 discount. Although this coupon was meant to be used with only ICICI online transfers, people have been successful in using other banks account for payment as well. - COUPON CODE - ICICILB

Hmm..so that reliance coupon allows me to avail the discount of 2000, even with the "Cash on delivery" Payment method?

P.S.:It seems the reliance coupon expired on first march :(

I guess its still working, give it a shot.

@pauldmps: yes dude you did post the coupon first, I had compiled a reply but took a while before I posted it. (see 14 min diff between your and my post)

Guys..after seeing the optimus 2x's price of 27k(soon, around 26k~ on letsbuy id assume). I was thinking..if i'm paying ~22k for a single core proc.....why not wait a bit..expand my budget and purchase the 2x for say 24k?(assuming the reliance discount exists!)
