Need suggestions for Domain Registration & Web Hosting

Hello friends,

I'm planning to create a website and would like to know where can I find the cheapest domain name registration & web hosting solution.

I have looked at godaddy.com and also came across znetindia.com which is a bit cheaper than godaddy.

However, I am a total noob in this and would like some recommendations.

I plan to purchase the cheapest plan with linux.

Also please tell me what has to be looked for while selecting a hosting plan.

I would suggest godaddy.com as thier support is very good although a bit costly.

For hosting go with hostgator I host all my sites with them.

when I posted this thread, I wasn't aware what I should look for in hosting plans. so after reading a bunch of stuff, I have narrowed down few things which I want in the hosting plan from the beginning (even if I might not use it for sometime)

the usual stuff like CGI, PERL, PHP etc. which is pretty much common.

What i am looking at is.

unlimited MYSQL databases (some sites offer 1 to 5 databases with their basic pan)

SSL certificate

subdomains (forums.mydomain.com)

AWstats will be an added advantage, but can do without it

until now hostgator seems to be good with all the above mentioned tools + unlimited disk space and bandwidth for US$4.95

erm...and what about security. Please provide some insight....I am a total noob.

any suggestions?
