if i were you,i wont touch pagefile, let windows 7 manage it.
if you still want to cut it ,then you can go down to 1 gb pagefile .

Don't bother messing with pagefile settings on an SSD. Am running one for close to 2 years now, and Windows 7 knows best. Just install, enable AHCI, and forget about everything else.

BTW, I'd recommend Intel drives over OCZ, in case you guys haven't heard, OCZ is now using 25nm NAND in some drives, reducing their free space.

Crappy tactics, they're not getting any more business from me (bought 2 for wife's office, 40GB Vertex 2 drives, luckily got the 34nm NAND version drives.)

btw, what do you guy's do with the pagefile.sys when you have a SSD. I guess the swap file would be fatal to SSD's. Do you switch it off all together or just specify a HDD volume for it?
I leave mine on the SSD. It is completely safe. Unless maybe you run a DB server or something, like some people here. You'll have to continuously run your drive for a few years if not more to hit the rated read/write limits. Don't worry about the pagefile.

I would still suggest getting the SSD first, since it'll show you much more noticeable differences in everyday usage. Unless you have a few hundred gigabytes of apps that is. My SSD has my OS and all my apps. VS2010, QT, CUDA and Maya take up the bulk of space. Additionally I always have TF2 & 1 or 2 other games I'm currently playing in my Steam folder (also on the SSD). All other everyday apps barely total up to a gig.

The only times I've felt that I've lacked space has been when I've wanted to try maybe one or two more games or when I've found that I can't dump my simulation data onto the SSD. A shift to a 128gigger should solve these issues for me. Just waiting for them to hit a better pricepoint.

About the whole deal with 25nm NAND on OCZ drives, they tried to slip them in unnoticed but users raised a hue and cry and OCZ had to backtrack. All drives with VTXE in the model name, now carry the 25nm NAND. In general, OCZ does however seem to be getting a pretty bad rep as far as reliability is concerned. Intel seems to be doing much better on that front.

Second that for Intel!

About the pagefile thing, let Win7 take its call. I use the Intel SSD toolbox and it kind of takes care of the "rest".

^ The WD Black 2TB ?

If you're looking at an Intel SSD, check on availability of the Intel 320 series SSDs. They're basically a 25nm refresh of the X25-M series with some minor updates.. plus cheaper and offer higher capacities.

Better - Yes.

That Seagate 2TB is a 'green' drive. Not fair to even compare it performance wise against the WD Black.

The 6Gbps interface is more of a marketing feature than any practical use on that Seagate.

Is this better (or rather VFM) over the Seagate 2TB 6gbps drive? dvdstoredelhi is retailing it for 4.7k.
I don't think it is better than the Seagate 2TB 6gpbs drive.

for one WD Black is still 7.2k rpm same as Seagate.

Same 64MB Ram

the only difference is sata II & Sata III (I think seagate one is sata III)

if you have support for sata II go for Seagate instead. else stick to WD

I think you guys are looking at the wrong drive.

Once again, the Seagate 2TB for 4.7k is a Seagate Green drive.

Its focus is power efficiency and silence. Its NOT a performance drive.

Spindle speed is 5900 rpm too.

Also, SATA 6gbps on mechanical hard drives is a joke currently. It offers no benefits.
Yeah possibly a hogwash which explains the same price as that of the 3gbps 2TB drive. :|

Exactly, I already have one of these 5900RPM green series drive (albeit the SATA II version). Its alright for backup/storage, but its really too slow to be used for running applications/games. Even a SSD for OS would be a waste if apps/games are going to load from a drive like this. Even a regular 7200RPM drive should give better performance. That's why I am asking for suggestions.

Have had good experience with WD Black 1TB, so I guess 2TB should also be good. Are there any other 2TB drives that perform decently under the 6k mark?

Guy's thinking about ordering 1 x Corsair F60 SSD and 1 x Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB (ST2000DL003).

I will empty my 2 x WD 640GB AAKS and WD 500GB AAKS into the 2TB and use one of the 640GB AAKS as installation drive. The 640GB AAKS is one of the fastest desktop class HDD ever made and should do nicely for games/software installs. I would still have 4 drives in my system at the end of the day.

Corsair 60GB SSD - Win 7 x64

WD 640GB AAKS - Games/Applications.

2 x Seagate Green 2TB - Storage.

The Corsair 60GB SSD should have enough space for installing 1-2 games, apart from the OS. This would give the max performance for it.

This makes the most sense to me among all the options discussed so far :P
