PC Peripherals Need suggestions for new printer

My dad's HP 3550 went kaput after serving well for 3 years. So I need suggestions for a new printer.

- Will be used for both b&w stuff and colored presentations.
- Needs to be reliable and cost effective
- Shouldn't be too big and bulky
- Don't plan to use original catridges. Will be using refilled ones.

Which brand should I go for? Would be great if someone could point me to some good models.

Also, I have no idea about laser printers. Color laser printers and their toner gets too costly? Or should I just stick to color inkjects?
 
think about colour lasers only if u need very crisp prints or if ur usage is like 15-20 colour pages per day min.. else i dont think they are really worth the massive price tag they come with.

Anyways other tan tat u could hav a look at the hp officejet series .. they are reasonably priced an hp in their ad states they give good prints wit lower costs tan laser printers. find out about k5300 from other users.. seems like good value for money..

an if dont need colour pics printouts .. only documents lets say then seriously consider gettin cheap hp printers like d2460 for about 2k an using it wit refilled cartridges.. its the cheapest combination ever.. ;) :p
 
Thanks a lot. I guess color laser printer is out of the picture now then. Don't really need photo printing either. Like I said, dad will be using refilled cartridges. So the question is should I go with a cheapo 2k printer or go with a decent one, taking running cost and quality into account.

Some more model numbers would be higly appreciated :)
 
well in cheap printers the best bet is d2460 (it also looks neat as its black in colour) ..

if u want an all in the hp5610 is a good bet @ 8k.. i recently bought 1.. (but its for the office an hence im not using it so cant exactly comment on it) .

other cheap printer option HP 1360 @ 1850 (dont know if it is still available or not)

hp f4185 (print copy scan) @ 4k .. seems good value as u get onsite replacement warranty and 1 extra free black cartridge.. so if u hav 2 cart.. whn one runs out u can refill it an in the meanwhile use the spareone (reduces downtime in case of emergency printouts specially at night when u necessarily need them for a report in ta morn.. hehe)
