I have the following devices in my house

1. iPod Touch 16GB.
2. Download Rig + HTPC with Gigabit LAN.
3. My younger Brother's rig.
4. My main rig.
5. One office laptop.
6. WinMo with WiFi.

While wiring for the home i had made ammends for CAT6 only at three places.
1. D/L Rig
2. Bro's Room
3. My rig

Things were fine till we got the laptop and the ipod touch. Now i NEED a wireless solution.

Currently my N/w setup includes.

1. ADSL router given my TIndicom. -> 8 port 10/100 ethernet switch -> My three machines.

Now i want to get rid of both of these, and get a decent one stop solution for WiFi + Gigabit + ADSL.

What would you guys recommend? I am totally n00b with wireless stuff apart from the theory.

No idea about the budget either and I am not too adamant on getting a AIO solution either. Whatever comes out of a fruitful discussion in this thread will be the choice.

Thanks in advance.

What exactly is your budget here? Since you're looking at gigabit connectivity as well, I'd suggest either a Linksys WRT320N or WRT610N. You can use them together with your existing ADSL modem. No need to use the switch anymore. As far as the pricing goes, the WRT610N is around 8k locally, and I'm guessing the WRT320N would be maybe 6k or so.

thanks for the info mate.
Saw both of them. Both are nice options for Giga + Wifi but none has ADSL. I'd prefer something with ADSL. The one provided by TIndicom sucks to the core.

I can't even bind MACs to IPs with it. So need a overall decent ADSL router, which'd play along nicely with the 310/320.

I have a very small house ~900 sqr feet 2BHK. And the devices requiring wifi are only three with none 'N' ready. I hope this additional info helps.

Suggestions are still invited and welcome.

You mean you want an ADSL modem + router? In that case you can go for the WAG54G2 or the WAG160N. Got both and don't really have any issues with either. Can't vouch too much for the WAG54G2 though, since I've used it for less than a month. The WAG160N, on the other hand, has been running flawlessly for nearly a year now. Got a N-enabled laptop, iPhone and a Nokia N95 connecting to it with no problems.

But none of the modem + router units have gigabit ethernet ports.

Best thing would be to configure your existing ADSL modem in bridge mode, configure a WRT320N or WRT610N in PPPoE mode and use all the features of the Linksys router. You won't need to do anything with the modem.

@Edrill: That sounds like a wise advice to me.

I'll see if the modem is configurable that way.

Otherwise I think i'll better pickup the wrt54G if one's still available. and get a Gigabit switch. This'd serve the wireless purpose as well as satiate the Gigabit itching.

What say?

I'm sure the modem should have an option for Bridge mode. Which one is it?

Yeah, the most economical option would be a cheap G router and a gigabit switch. But if you're going that route, you might as well pick up a WAG54G2 and a gigabit switch! That way, instead of having a modem, router and a gigabit switch on your desk, you just have a gateway and a gigabit switch! Less wire clutter and all that!

U read my mind. Hope i could find the WAG54G2 here in pune. mmmm Tomato goodness.

I'm sure you shouldn't have a problem finding it. Sujata Computers will probably have it in stock. They've got a lot of Linksys stuff in stock with them.
