0-20k Need tablet recommendations

Possibly out of thread but what would be a good notetaking app for Android tablets? I've been running a half-baked version of Samsung Notes on my Xiaomi Pad 5 but I'd be happy to write on anything... a lot of PDF annotation than anything (adding extra pages to take notes on the PDF, etc.)

Can't quite afford Notewise at the moment, trying Saber but something feels off with it... any other great suggestions? I tried OneNote but felt it lacking in a lot of places. :(

get one of the xiaomis pads , or Samsungs . avoid iPadOS if your budget is below 25k . better get a good iPad than older ones. I think you could get iPad Air 4 easily for 30k which is a good iPad . otherwise stick to Samsung and xiaomi or even one plus pads in budget segment

Also wanted to get a used tablet for note taking purely and media consumption,so some samsung A or S models are the only good choice?

If an OLED screen is a must then only the flagship tablets have it. However

If you can do with an LCD screen but still want good note taking I would
Suggest you look at the FE series. You could also look at some used Tab S series too!

I have been using tablets since the first generation iPad came out, and have used practically every flagship tablet, and quite a few non flagship ones, and in my experience, if you even want to be slightly productive, iPad goes out the window.

1. You can't install WhatsApp, forget installing two copies.

2. Meta apps and most apps designed for the iPhone do not make full use of the large screen. You get a stunted phone interface in a tiny window, and even the keyboard isn't full screen in most cases.

3. Multi-window is utter garbage.

4. There are absolutely no good open-source apps (barring the rare exception like local send). PDF convertor, Bluefin Console, image toolbox quickly come to mind.

5. You cannot mirror your notifications on windows devices. Android let's you do it with even FOSS apps like Scrcpy and Sefirah

6. You cannot use external devices like Microphones and Webcams.

7. You cannot use system level adblockers and script handlers like adguard etc to the full extent.

And these are just a few I could think before hitting the bed.

That said, I currently have the M2 iPad Pro, Tab S9, Tab S10 Ultra, and the Huawei Matepad 13 pro. For using as recommend by Apple, and doing the basic stuff, and playing games nothing beats the iPad.

If you want the fun to begin, go Android and the ADB way, and you will see the fetters breaking away.
weird question but riding on your adb and adblock suggestions, how far can you degoogle an android tablet like those of xiaomi?

I’d recommend giving Nebo a try — I personally use it on my Android tablet and it’s been great, especially for handwritten notes and PDF annotation. You can write directly on PDFs, add extra pages in between if you need more space to jot down thoughts, and the handwriting recognition is surprisingly accurate. I also like that it handles diagrams and even math pretty well, turning messy scribbles into clean editable content. It’s free to start with, and even the base version is pretty powerful. Definitely worth checking out if Saber isn’t clicking for you!
