i've been using LG Front Load direct drive WM for over a year and pretty happy with it. even one of my friends' has it for more than 3 years without any issue. reason i chose LG was it was relatively 'compact' compared to other WMs and less noisy. otherwise , i was looking at Siemens/Bosch[both are same except for branding - choose one with better service in your city]. did not consider IFB since i had read that it's not as good as it used to be. however, my brother uses IFB and he has not faced any issue either.

These front loading machines. Do they have a heater option when the dryer spools up. So the clothes come out 100% dry.

Frankly the washing machine technology has been around for so long that it is now mainstream. You will not really make much of a mistake if you choose either Samsung, LG, Bosch/Siemens with a good after sales service in your area. For a given budget range most of them are almost equal. With more money you need to focus on features such as the following.
  • Interrupt wash cycle to add forgotten clothes
  • Short duration cycle (15 mins)
  • Extra Rinse and Quick Rinse cycles
  • Easy waste water disposal in case of power failure (earlier models used to have a twist cap to remove the gunk and excess water. These days you have a tube with a stopper to remove the excess water and then you need to remove the twist cap to get rid of gunk such as threads from clothes and paper pieces etc).
  • Motor and drum fitted on to the same shaft (LG calls it Direct Drive. Other brands such as Siemens have it too but they do not advertise it as feature. I guess it has been there in there models for a long time and they do not see it as a marketable feature.)
  • Ability to select both temperature and clothes types (Silk, Cotton etc) idependently

I think LG had a 100% dry washing machine a few years ago. I am not sure if it still exists.

Okay, asking because I just got an IFB Dryer. Have been experimenting with various loads (at different timing intervals) -- and the clothes come out 100% dry. You can literally wear them out of the machine. I tried 120m then 60m, both gave dry clothes. Today will try 40m. These are clothes which have been washed and spun dry in a top loading standard machine.

There are few 'washer-dryer' combo machines. But a bit costly. (~50K + )

+ some LG model is there too.

I was looking for one. But it's way above my budget. Plus read in some user reviews (in Amazon or FK, don't remember), the whole washing + drying session takes around 6 hours.

By 120m/60m you mean minutes ?
I am also looking at the same thing, just because its quite economical compared to other Tumble Dryers.
How would you rate your overall experience with the machine? Yay/nay ??

Yes, I meant minutes.

My experience with the process of drying clothes in an isolated dryer has been good. The clothes come out 100% dry -- and ready to wear. Just that, last night the spin drum was making horrible scrapping noises during the revolutions. I called up the service engineer and he said: that my unit will be replaced. It is like 3-4 days old. I probably got a bad unit/lemon..! Apart from the bad-luck with my new unit, I think a dryer is a good option. The IFB MaxDry is retailing at ~19,200 (for the silver body). The white body one would be 3-4K cheaper, almost.

Aren't dryers known to be power hogs?

That's what the sales guys said too, front loading machines with the heating n drying functions will chew more power. Standalone dryers will most likely be the same

Mine is rated 2.9 units. Let us say, 3 units. My society charges: ~ 7 bucks per unit. If I run it everyday, for an hour: 3 x 30 x 7 = INR 630. I think this is fine. I doubt fully automatic machines are so highly rated in terms of unit charge. They would be less.
