Hey,
I need to buy a laptop soon.
Laptop will be used for core development work,and occasional gaming. I have seen HP envy series which sits out to be a good candidate but dont have any reviews for it. Also i am confused whether i should go for dell alienware or not.

Dell Studio range is amazing. I have a 3 year old 80K dell studio 1645, my needs are pretty the same as yours and its flawless! Get the extended warranty and you have no more problems, EVER!
