Hi guys as my space is running out on my earlier drives I wish to buy a new one.I prefer to buy 2 TB straight away but for that will have to sell my existing drives WD 160GB+Seagate 500GB due to low budget. But the question arises which 2TB drive to buy.My choice was western digital blue. But that drive only comes in 1 TB variant.I dont want to buy WD green as they are just meant for storage. The other option is Seagate 2 TB but I dont know the reliability as WD blue is quite good.So please help  Besides this I can also keep the 500 Gb drive and sell the WD 160 and go for WD blue 1 Tb.So this is pretty confusing to me and I need good suggestions. Please help :nailbiting:

1Tb is the only option in WD black, blue is much available as its not in demand. Best is to define your hdd usage split for storage (WD green) & program performance (WD Black) Keep your 160gb for installing the OS & program assuming they are fast 7200rpm hdd.

Your budget for new HDD excluding your old HDDs?

2.5K[DOUBLEPOST=1372235096][/DOUBLEPOST]

black is more than enough bro its way beyond my budget where I can easily buy 2Tb it would come only 1Tb for the price.Bw what is the cost of 2Tb seagates?

You can sell your 500GB one for around 2K to make your full budget as 4.5K and get 1TB Black from here[DOUBLEPOST=1372235683][/DOUBLEPOST]

Approx 5.5-6K

wd black would be an overkill for me bro... blue I can get for 3.7K shipped... Rest I am confused about Seagate 2 Tbs[DOUBLEPOST=1372237489][/DOUBLEPOST]
Seagate barracuda are also good, you can check them out too.

yes bro but I am still confused...

For Seagate 2TB you need to sell off both of your hard drives. Personally I m fan of WD.

Its a personal choice between WD and SG, both are good,
On after sales though i would say WD is much better, my friend got his HDD RMA'ed and delivered direct to his home while I with my Segate had to go to the service center and wait for almost a month since they did not have stock.

Hmm that is true.I too like WD but as they dont create WD blue above 1 Tb make me feel sick. The others Black & Red are out of budget and Green only for storage purpose would serve better.:arghh:

Yes bro you are absolutely correct seagate takes minimum of 1 month RMA and also I have heard that they give refurbished units after RMA while WD gives new drives straight away.

Yup, that is why in the end it is your preference, but don't just let the after sales decide your purchase,
i have 5 Seagate HDD's running at my home and only 1 of them gave up on me, the others are running rock solid.

Those days are gone. Now WD also gives re-certified drives like Seagate

:banghead: really?Oh then seagate 2 Tb might be fine. What say?[DOUBLEPOST=1372239238][/DOUBLEPOST]

Both WD and Seagate will return Re-certified drives but WD in lesser time :D Since you do not have any other option is your budget other than Seagate 2TB you can buy it but do not forget about A.S.S. On the other end with WD 1TB Blue you will be having 1.5TB total storage (considering you selling off 160GB to raise funds) but with better A.S.S.

With new 1TB drive you will have ~780GB more space + hassle free A.S.S.
With 2TB you will have ~1700GB Space + A.S.S. tenson.

You can decide you need space or A.S.S. right now. You can save up again and in 6-8 months you can sell 500GB drive to get 1 more 1TB drive. In this way you will also have data security by not putting all eggs in one basket (2TB drive).

Are you sure? You had posted a bad experience just 2 months back. Anyway as you said "Two different metros - two different types services :(". So probably the OP should mention which location he's from.

Hi,I am from H.P. Nahan the nearest place for RMA to me is Chandigarh.I can either go by myself or send it by courier also I have to order the drive online only because here people live in stone age as a core 2 duo is still the latest processor for them so I bet a hard disk of capacity 1-2Tb might give them a heart attack ("are bhai sahab itni badi hard disk kon leta hai ye le jao 160 gb bharegi hi nahi aapki")... i just looked at him and laughed and stepped out of the shop never ever I bothered even to ask for any computer accessory ever.Only online shopping :) (thank god for the online option). So now please suggest wisely.
