There are loads ad loads of powercuts in Kolkata now-a-days so my parents Need to buy an inverter, please tell brand, price and model no.

Thank you, Amandeep :)

Looks like my inverter is about to die and I too might need a new one.

Any suggestions for a home inverter - what about those "sine wave" (Su-Kam) models, I'm interested in that. How about the APC home UPS is that worth it?

Hmm

As posted in other thread, Sukam Falcon (Pure Sine Wave, 800VA) is costing about 5.1 k to me, and the battery about 9.1 (150AH) (special discuount :) ).

BTW What do u mean by dying?

Location: PUne.

How long will that last if you run, say, 400 watts of equipment - say 1 light, 1 fan and 1 PC :) ?

By "dying" I mean the battery runs out fast now - no life left in it, plus the existing inverter (I dont know what brand it is) is a "sealed" unit and does not give sine wave output, so my APC PC UPS keeps clicking when on powercut... need to be able to run my PC 24x7 (except thursdays when there is whole day cuts)...

me too in Pune of course...

edit: mouthshut reviews of sukam seem to be poor. any other brands to look at? APC Home UPS worth it? Costly?

Hmmm there is a chart on the site of Sukam, that provides you details of load it can pick up.

tell me bout it... but then sukam seem less evil compared to microtek :S

I bought the APC 800VA model a couple of weeks back coupled with a 120Ah prestolite battery. Its a sine wave inverter with good aesthetics too... Costed me 13.5k~ here in Bangalore. The customer care people told me i need to buy a separate UPS for the comp coz the inverter won't be able to handle tat load.. surprisingly, the inverter takes tat load and the comp won't even turn off or restart.. haven't tested the duration of the backup yet.. max power cut was 1.5 hours..

1 light, 1 fan and 1 PC should last u atleast an hour and a half with the 800VA and without the PC much much longer..

I'm interested too in the options available. Bought a 1.4KVA Honda genset without self start to save a measly 3/4k and paying the price everytime the power goes out. Gets really irritating when it comes back on as soon as I start the genset :@

I'm too broke to buy an inverter as of now but would be glad to know my options when I have spare funds. Will put the genset for the TV/ fans etc and inverter for 3 PCs/ 2 to 4 lights.

@vishalrao: if by "dying" u mean that backup time is less, u simply need a new battery. n i hope u have been maintaining your old batt too, u kno, checkin levels n stuff? :P thats if u dont wanna go ahead n get a new one for the sine wave thingy.

@naga: hey naga, the way your rigs are built, u need a single inverter per rig just to get to shutdown

We have a luminous N750 inverter(no UPS .. sine wave thingy) - over 4 and a half year old. paired with an exide 150A battery believe me it lasted these 4 years.. considering that Punjab had no scheduled power cuts for like over a year.

However, the battery was next to dead, so bought new this month. Now it's 1x1800Plus 180A Exide at home

2x 1500Plus 150A at village and elsewhere.

So.. to reply your question.. Get a good one time investment inverter(hopefully :) ) and you should be satisfied!

Actually DDR3 consumes less power than DDR2 :bleh: . In fact most of my components will consume less power than a similar high-end rig from last year :bleh: :bleh:

many posts yet my quires ain't cleared,

APC 800VA model = 13k

ok? sometimes no powercuts for even 1 month at a stretch and sometimes powercuts 12 hours at a stretch, so is that inverter ok?

What about those SUKAM inverters that have their ads boadcasted on TV, they are nice too?

Asked a shop yesterday. 1.2 lakhs for an inverter that will run a AC plus some other stuff (i.e total 4000W of electronics). I ran out of the shop and didn't even bother asking how long it would run the AC. And I suppose I would probably have to build another room to house it's batteries!!!
