Re: pc dvd writer went kaput..confused between internal n external

^^ Will you like to carry that around with your-self for a legit reason, because it'll burn DVD's much slower than a ~ 950/- OEM Internal DVD writer.

Re: pc dvd writer went kaput..confused between internal n external

Get an LG 22X dvd writer. Costs about 900 bucks.
Sata or ide is upto you.
These external writers are a thing of past when external hard drives were rare. For portability get an external hard disk.

Even I was in a similar situation.so I did detailed research about this.here are my thoughts.

1.nowadays companies don't. Spend. much on r&d on optical. Drive s.

2.on average the build quality has gone down over the years. Due to cost cutting.and due to more complex.drives. combo drives have 2 separate lasers for CD and DVD.often one of them fails.and you have a.partially working drive.

3.desktop drives are better built and provide better. Performance and more. Reliable. Burns.

4.THE. optical. Drives life is rated. as no. Of hours your PC is on.even if you are not Actually using it.dust and rough handling are detrimental to drive health.

5.After having 3 drives of both. Desktop and. Laptop variety trouble me.I decided to get a lite on desk top drive in an external casing

6.it is shared between three computers and performance is very good. This also keeps it powered down when not used. Prevents dust. Protects it from rough handling of netbooks. It's been 10 months and it performs just like new.

7.so moral of the story is to get a desktop drive with casing. Its sturdier and cheaper.

How do you share it between three computers? do you unplug/plug each time you want to use on a different PC?

Well now that you ask,i have 3 different laptops and one old laptop serving as a desktop. In this setup there is a usb hub with a printer, scanner, dvd drive,1tb common backup storage.my bro,my dad,or myself share these different functions as required.

I have the same Buffalo DVD Writer. Bought it when I got a netbook ( had 30+ legit movies in VCD which i had to see ). Very convenient, can use it on laptop/netbook/desktop, even for installing windows or anything. Still have to use it for writing DVDs or VCDs.
