Hello,

I am planning to make my home network wireless. Along with that I have also ordered a TMobile G1 :hap2: through Fizz ( should arrive on Monday  ) and I want to access the web on that .

Anyway, so I want to buy an 802.11g/n router. I am not so sure about getting the 'n' one, since the standard is still in draft and there seems to be multiple versions of the same thing like N, N+, N1 ??? Don't think its worth the extra moolah . I also want to get a PCI Wi-Fi card or a USB WiFi thingy ( whichever is better ) for my second PC.

When it comes to router, I see the Buffalo WCR G54 @ around 1.45k at Lynx site. Then there are more expensive ones from 2k to 3k+ from Belkin, Netgear etc. I also found that an iBall one is available locally for 1.8k. But I have had a bad experience from iBall before with their PSU so I would rather not go there.

I case of adapter also, I find many ranging from 1.5k - 2.5k both USB and PCI.

Any advice on what to get? Based on past experiences. I want to order one ASAP.

Thanks.

I have been using Linksys wrt54g (around 1800-2000 on ebay) and linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter (WUSB54GC) (paid 1600 at staples almost an year back) without any hassles or issues.

sorry, wrong router model #. use this one. WRH54G

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The WRH54G seems to be good from what I have read and costs like 1.9k on Google. I have also found a few Belkin ones that are quite cheap.

Belkin F5D7000 WiFi PCI is only like 900 bucks. Same for the F5D7050 USB adapter. The Belkin F5D7234-4 G Wireless Router costs around 1.5k.

Anyone has any experience with those?

EDIT:
From some of the posts here on TE, it seems Buffalo routers are very much recommended.
Is this:
eBay India: Buffalo Wireless G BroadBand Router 54Mbps - 2YR + BILL (item 280391452387 end time 07-Sep-2009 05:31:53 IST)

a good choice?

Get a 802.11n router if you can afford it. The Draft-N spec has been now finalised, so no worries abt changes being made. Buffalo is a really good brand, so try and get their 802.11n router.

Cheapo USB 802.11n dongles are available on DealExtreme: Cool Gadgets at the Right Price - Site-Wide Free Shipping (Page 1) for ~$20. You can probably find a better brand locally for Rs1500. Dont bother spending more for the ones with bigger antenna, if the PC is gonna sit close to the router.

Oh man!! I had almost decided on a 'G' setup with a router for around 1.5k-2k ( Buffalo ) and a cheapo dongle. Now I m all undecided again.

I know that its the new standard and that G is on its way out etc. But is it worth the money to plonk down ~4k for an N router? Maybe I will get the Buffalo WHRG300N from NewEgg and then flash it with DD-WRT like many are doing. . It should cost only like ~2.5k-3k to import it.

Ok I have finally decided . :)

I am getting the router from NewEgg through KMD. Its a Buffalo WHRG300N, 802.11n router. Also getting an el-cheapo usb adapter from DX.

Dont go for Buffalo, especially WCR-G54, its cheap but not reliable, read my reviews here: Buffalo WCR-G54 Router- Review, Feedback | The Web Stop

Thanks
