need to convert .dat video for youtube upload, need software

I received a VCD of a family gathering which i need to upload to youtube.

The VCD has a .dat file which by defaults play in WMP but I cant upload that file to youtube.

I am on windows7 x64 & TMPGEnc wont work on this at all even in compatibility mode of xpsp2. Need some software which can convert the file to mpeg/avi etc.

Please suggest software which can convert .dat file & also have editor so I can select the part of the clip which can be converted to mpeg/avi

Oh will that work, its still a huge file 600mb so I guess I still need to convert to mpeg & reduce the size.

You can convert .dat to mpeg using VCDGear. It's free.

In VCD, dat is nothing but MPEG1 video with some additional header information. So, as suggested by nucleuskore, use VCDGear, which will simply remove the header and give you *.mpg file, which you can upload.

Thanks to all now I have plenty of choices before installing can you tell me which one of the software have an inbuilt visual editor so I can select the parts of the movie to make it less than 10 mins (youtube limit)

I could not find any editor in the above mentioned software
