I am looking at buying the Banana Pi (SBC like Raspberry Pi/Beaglebone Black). The board has a SATA connector onboard. The board is only able to power 2.5 inch HDD's.

On eBay and Aliexpress, this SATA cable is being sold as a Banana Pi SATA + power cable -

If this is available widely in the market in India, I won't have to buy it from China. I searched for SATA cables but the normal ones seem a bit different. Those which have power lines usually have a 4 pin connector instead of a 2 pin connector like the one I posted above.

I am going to buy a 500GB 2.5 inch laptop HDD for use with the Banana Pi.

P.S : Banana Pi product page - http://www.banana-pi.com/eacp_view.asp?id=35

EDIT: Found a picture of a HDD plugged into a Banana Pi using this cable. (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/bananapien/Sy-jGvjoLc0)

@avi Nope. Not yet.
I am still evaluating me need for it [emoji14]
Just got a new laptop so am a bit short on cash now.

You want to get one too?
I have got a quote from an Indian seller (based in Gujrat), IDASystems. They quoted Rs.3800 for the Banana Pi board + SATA cable and Rs.600 for the case.

Kinda interested, but haven't decided. So first you take the plunge and I will follow :P

The Sata cable is easy. Its the power cable (red/black cable) that you need and since its not available, make it. It looks very easy to make.

1. Buy this cable-

^ You can buy this cable locally from any large computer shop. Won't cost more than 50 bucks.

2. Using a screw driver knock out the pins from the molex connector or you could just chop the cables. Remember to seal the yellow and black ones (you don't need these for 2.5" hdds).

3. Take the red and black wires and put them in a simple 2 pin connector like this - (http://www.allelectronics.com/mas_assets/cache/image/d/e/f/3567.Jpg) . You can get this from any electical hobby shop, just put them in the right order.

Whole cable won't take more than a minute to make.

@RD274 I have a different version of the 2pin connector which you linked to. I use it for my hobby electronics work.

Till now I have not had a SATA HDD in hand. In older PATA HDD's, the power was provided by the 4 pin molex connector directly.
Is the power connector for SATA HDD's also separate?

EDIT : Found this image on the internet

As long as it goes in the hole and fits tight in the banana pi connector, any 2 pin connector will do.

yes, it can be attached separately like in the pic above.

Is the power connector available separately as shown in pic? Or is it a rare item and costs a bomb?
