hi everyone i hv purchased hp dv2910tx laptop last month. it comes with preloaded vista home premium with 2 partitions. one for os and other one is for recovery abt 10gb space.

now i want to use my engineering software named caesar2 but it didnt support vista so i hv to shift for xp...n i dont want to loss original vista.

is there any method to install xp on my laptop without removing vista or dual booting......

help me !!!!!!!!!!!!!

yup u can so it wit the help of NORTON GHOST ..

all u need to make recovery point on USB device(pen drive ) make recovery of ya OS drive which will b C:

this will copy ya all vista OS as its ..(it only work(in ya situation) if ya dont have any dat on ya another drive...(take that data on pendrive)

then format ya laptop..in stall ya Xp ...then install vista on another partition

but ya need NORTON GHOST RESCUE DISK to in stall ya all vista os at it is .... search it in Google..u will get it..

its a boot able disk(after writing that disk image to a disk) then restore it..

Have u tried to intall XP straight? I recall if u r installing 2nd OS, u get teh option to retain teh orig Vista & then get a option during boot.

But my advice.. Vista is all crap & a total failure. Hence MS is so keen to launch WIn7. In my company, we specifically order all new machines with XP. No Vista for us. ALso we also use all engg sw on our Laptops & hence prefer XP as stable system.

So if the laptop is ur bread & buter, dont mess with Vista. Just Format & install XP. If u bought it from HP India.. U can ask for XP officially...Dell is now giving this option while ordering..

Dude use Vista first, everyone had same opinion about XP, 98, 95 when they were launched in reference to their existing version.

Your company might not have enough funds for Vista volume license our is not confident about Vista's security at this point so have ordered XP.

I am very sure that fund is on,y the reason for which colleges flee from Vista atleast my college did and uses RedHat.

Their are lots of tutorials on web about how to install XP on system with already installed vista.

IMO you should go by Virtual Machine way as you only want to test/use a single s/w.

It all depends on ur usage. As we use ENgg SW which doesn't work on Vista...So we prefer XP.
Also Vista has a long learning curve.. while XP is easy..So it is a matter of ease fo use...& also compatibity with our basic reqt - engg ssw must work flawlessly...:hap2:

You can format and install Windows XP on your HP laptop until you are sure that the restore partiton that came on the laptop's hard disk (is somewhere from 5-10 GB) When you are done with your XP stuff you can restore Vista from the restore parition and you are good to go..
