Need a router to share Tata indicom Broadband(Infinity 750, static ip) between a system and a laptop. The laptop will be 10-15 feet away from the router kept in a different room. The signal has to pass through a thin wall.
Budget: 2-3k.:( Lower the cost better. Gonna buy one in 2-3 days. Plz help me with this guys:huh:

Get the Basic buffalo at 1.5k. Wireless signal is good enough for a 2 bedroom house.
Easy to setup and lasts long :D

If you want something a little more powerful then buy a TPLink WR642G
On the forum many believe TPlink to be bad but trust me the range on this one is as good as a Buffalo HP.
And the firmware on this is way better than any buffalo stock firmware.

Static IP would affect the choice for router? 'cause 1 year back when I went to a shop they told me that for static IP It would be problem, But google told me that it's not :)

I am using this model eBay India: Belkin Wireless G BroadBand Router 54Mbps - 5YR + BILL (item 170408605993 end time 25-Nov-2009 14:00:48 IST)

You can go for Belkin N router but you will get good LAN speeds only if your laptop wifi card supports 802.11n. Otherwise no advantage in going for 802.11n router. The G router is available for odd 1325/- on ebay and it has support for Static, Dynamic, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP. The web interface to configure router is very good with wide variety of options. Also you have option to clone your PC MAC address to router MAC address.

Wireless N router's Range is wider than the wireless G

Paid about 1.9k for the router. I got it locally.

That is not entirely true. Extended G or G+ router does give better range than basic wireless N ones.

The WR642G gives much better range and Signal strength compared to some of the 50-90$ so called HP buffalo N or other N routers. There are N router that do perform better but the ones that do cost a lot :P

Will the Belkin G do? Any other better option at the same price point? Will try to get one locally. Else have to get from e-bay. :(

bought a d-link dir-300 for rs1500 recently...supports dd-wrt....though havent flashed it yet....nor tested it much so cant say anything abt its range ........wanted to buy a draftn model initially but cheaper ones have have bad reviews...mimo and 5ghz ones are costly even outside india
