Need wifi adaptor. PCI wifi card or PCI based USB card + wifi USB dongle ?

How often does the speed drop like that, you can't be doing this on a daily basis.

Does time of day have an effect here. Usually peak hours (6-9pm) are congested but is it like that for evdo as well.

It drops randomly. Sometimes every 2-4 days, while sometimes works fine for 10-14 days w/o adjusting its position. I almost always find that spot (where i get 110-120kBps) place to fix my datacard in 4ft radius around my pc.

Last time i got 200-210kBps for 15 days without changing position.

That you can get fix signal reception by shifting in such a small radius is interesting.

Is your present room at a corner ? in which case you've got a couple of towers facing you, when one is busy or down you move and orient towards the other tower and this fixes the signal. Congestion isn't the case here if you get an immediate improvement.

Yes, my room is at corner and my pc is located at corner of my room as well.

I dont have a cdma phone so cant find location of EVDO tower

Then your present room is the preferred location to situate the 3g data card as you get the best sweep to catch the signal.

Corner location is best for 3g reception :)

Since you're only 1 wall and 13 feet away i think the mr3020 should be good enough. Only if your mobiles in the other room cannot catch the wifi, then you need the bridge. but you will compromise on your 3g in that case. You will have to move the mr3020 around much more and still won't get the same reception. One tower if you face it will work well but the other will have to cross more than one wall to get to you than at the corner where its one building wall only, from either tower.

Just guessing as i don't know your floor layout.

I think i should buy MR3020, and give it a try. Considering i have been using my data card in 4ft radius around my pc. router should work fine in that area too.

thanks a lot for your help. you made it really easy to understand. :D

I got MR3020 3 days ago, tried it with huawei E169 data card with idea sim, it worked fine [tested using wifi on my phone, not using ethernet on PC]

But its not working with BSNL EVDO Prithvi UE100 data card :( I entered all the details and left the APN blank

it shows identifying after i plug my data card, then after a few seconds shows 'identified' and starts connecting but still shows 0% signal. Gets stuck on 'connecting...' . After a few seconds, resets the data card and starts showing 'identifying' again.

what should i do? i've tried resetting the router

This is a config issue with the prithvi card, i don't know how to fix it. Check out the threads you saw earlier where people claimed it worked. Its either very simple to fix or impossible.

Wifi range is good everywhere in my house. including on the roof/garden/garage :D

its working with UE 100 but not due to firmware upgrade, it was because i had managed to find the spot where it gets decent speed.
UE100 + MR3020 combination sucks . router shows 0% signal and doesn't connect when i use a USB extension cable [which i use with my PC], it works only when EVDO UE 100 data card is connected and is kept in the 'correct position / spot'. It shows 0% signal [and connectivity LED doesn't glow] when its not in correct spot required by EVDO UE100 to work.
i have to move around in order to find 'that spot' where UE100 gets good EVDO signal. its really pain in the a** as i don't have any reference about current speed while moving the router to find 'that currect spot'.
its strange since even when i use UE 100 directly on my PC. Dashboard shows 3 bar signal even when its not in the correct spot. but speed drops to 0kbps or b/w 15-50kBps. If i manage to find 'that spot', speed rises to 70-110KBps while it still shows 3 bars of signal.

It works perfecly with my 2G idea sim in a huawei E169 data card. But UE100 + EVDO = nightmare
so i won't be using it with EVDO :( only with idea 2G/3G

Can you elaborate some more about how good the wifi is.

What is the furthest you can go in distance and what is the max number of walls in between (6 inch in your case) where you can receive a workable signal ?

If you can get a program called inssider from the playstore and do some readings for wifi. A workable signal is in the 30-80dBm range. Above 80-90, you will get connection problems and that is the real limit of the MR3020.
