It's for an occasional point-and-shoot stuff.

Don't need manual controls, don't care much about Video or other bells and whistles. What I need is decent image quality @ 1600X1200 Res and preferably Lithiom-ion batteries.

Budget is not MORE THAN 6K

^^ Shutter lag is a most irritating thing and it is most irritating when you press the shutter and after 2 seconds only does the picture get clicked.

But at the same time, most 3x zoom cameras come up woefully short on the zoom range. I feel that 5x zoom range should be a minimum. So if you are going to shoot family shots or still shots, then go for the Olympus.

I would suggest you try the camera first and see if you can live with the shutter lag of 1.65 secs. It seems to be quite long. Anything lower than 1 sec is good enough.

Shortlisted following two:

Sony DSC S730 and Samsung D760. Both are 7.2 MP cams and both will cost me less than 6K without bill.

Out of these two which one is better?

Hmmm Sony DSC S730??? Should be a lot more friendly on user interface and the Manual settings should be decent enough; :)

Honestly, used some slim Samsung cam a friend had and i doubt ill recommend something from them to anyone for a while.
