I am from Bangalore...
Planning to buy Pocket size hdd....
Budget is 5k to 5.5k..Max is 6K

No much knowledge on computer peripherals ..
I gathered a bit of information by doing googling...

Size : 320 / 500 GB....I would prefer to for 500GB...

Brand : Seagate...The reason for going Seagate is 5yrs warrentry...

Purpose..Data backup
Data can be movies/audio files /Games / Docs

My concerns about the product..

Logivity :)
speed :D
userfriendly :)

I would like to know from this forum

Did i select the rite brand ?
Am i missing any imp features about the product?
where i can get for the best price in bangalore?
How can i identify the original product?

Dude be patient. Most of the gurus are on job....

Night is the best time to put in your querries.

My suggestion get 2.5 inch HDD as it is more pocketable and needs no external power supply. Transcend/ western digital are both good and the 320 GB comes at around 4k. Dont go for 500GB as it will come in only 3.5 inch format with a bulky casing and power.

Hope this helped

Cheers

ul get the 500gb in 2.5" as well.. but it wud be hideously expensiv (like 6-7k's) .. which is why if you want more storage go for 3.5" aka wth power adapter (brands like wd/ seagate wud cost 3.5-4k for 500 gb) and if you want portability go for 2.5" ones in which case 320gb wud cost 4k. either way seagate and wd are both good choices.

Thank You for each & every one

I would prefer to go for only portable (2.5").

Brands

Transcend / Seagate both are of similar prices..Warrentry differs..Seagate is the best option when I think about Warrentry ..

No much idea abt WD etc

So I feel Seagate (320GB<5k) would be best option as (500GB>6K)

Please feel free to give ur valuable inputs

Seagate or WD is what I would recommend over any third party casing manufacturers like Transcend etc. Not that Transcends are bad as many of my friends are using them. Just that with WD/ Seagate i know which HDD brand I'm getting. Also, the extended warranty.

You can't go wrong with a WD too. Got lotsa fans here on TE.

thank you ...Seatgate or WD?????

^^Both are good. Decide with the price and looks as decisive factors :). Warranty should be at least 3 years for both. Not sure if Seagate still offers 5 years warranty atm.

ALL seagate external drives STILL come with 5 year warranty. So might be worth the extra premium, especially for a portable drive.

Warranty reduction to 3 years was ONLY for internal 3.5" desktop HDDs.

The best option would be to get a WD Passport Essential 320GB for 4100/-

with 3 yrs onsite warranty.

I bought one frm ebay, and have no probs till now :)
