Ok, so my cousins coming over and wants to get a laptop for her parents.

Budget: 500$, not too expensive

Use: Basic use around the home. So no major portability requirements. 14/15/17 all welcome.

Any good models/deals going on?

Would prefer something with international warranty (Dell is the ONLY one I suppose?). But if its a really good deal anything goes :ohyeah:

Pour in your valuable suggestions please :)

Buy the Acer Extensa EX5620-4025 15.4" Widescreen Laptop and other Laptop computers at circuitcity.com

Buy the Toshiba Satellite A205-S5831 15.4" Widescreen Laptop and other Laptop computers at circuitcity.com

there is hardly any difference in the configurations of the 2 lappys except for the extra 40GB HDD space on the toshiba.. toshiba is marginally lighter as well.. the price differential is not substantial.. so make your choice..

vostro 1000 will end up being a tad expensive..

btw.. ACER offers international warranty i think.. not sure abt toshiba

Thanks guptaji.

That Acer looks like a good option @ 400$ :)

Will probably go for that one ;) esp considering that it has a 1yr international travelers warranty, even tho that comes with a lot of limitations :P else lemme c if i can configure anything in Dell for <500$, but then warranty costs will be on top for complete cover :( damn...........

Thanks for spotting it, repped :D

Go for Studio 15 with X3100 and basic config..increase ur budget by few $s more.
theres always one of these :P sorry dude. but the budget is fixed. n for the studio etc, budget would have to go a lot more including taxes, completecover warranty etc :)

The studio line starts at 800$ :bleh: + taxes + extra warranty. Did you read my budget before doubling it? j/k :D
@hotstuff: Dell CC wont make a diff cos my budget might not be enough to cover completecover warranty from the US, and without that, theres no diff ;)

fyi: ta acer/ toshiba laptops recommended above are outlet products..aka.. refurbished/ pre used.

errr...dude...plz check out the given links. I didnt find any mention of refurb/preused anywhere there. f you spot it, lemme know :)

^^ dude when you open the link.. ul see a red dot with the words outlet written above the laptop picture. This means its a refurb/return/open box etc.. but yes its surely not new.

OK now when is ur cuz coming over here

Bcause if get good deals during thanksgiving & Christmas.....lot of bundled offers etc.,besides lappy series from Dell are way over ur limited budget...opt for non windows version...u can install it later in India....

Get the ones from acer,compaq...in India...turns out cheaper...U get refurbished ones in US at those prices....

The way i see it ....2 options

1) Increase ur budget ...wait for a good deal

2) Get the laptops in India within 30K aka 685$

The use is for the parents...they would love it to be simple ,ease of use,No buggy components & less heat generation....

Check out Cheapstingybargains

For more deals ...i would suggest her to buy during festive seasons

Nope, thats where you are wrong :)

What does "outlet" mean on circuit city's website? - Yahoo! Answers

The circuit city outlet section is simply their discount section with stuff they really really wanna get rid of. Doesnt mean its used/refurbished. For used/refurbished stuff, they have to explicitly mention the same.

Refer to:

Circuit city outlet laptops link

One of the HP laptops there has refurbished sticker and explicitly mentioned there. Everything else will be new :D so it will be an ok buy.

@ArZuNeOs: I know bout thanksgiving of course :) but shes coming this month end, so will prob try the acer ;)
