Netbook hooked-up to 24-inch monitor

Guys,

My current laptop is almost dead. I use the laptop mainly for my downloading torrents, watching movies, surfing and on rare occassions MS office.

I'm looking for a Netbook

Screen Size - Doesnt matter - (It'll be connected to a 24inch monitor)

Processor + RAM - I'm really out of touch with whats happening with on this front. All I care is it should play 720p/1080p without any glitch.

Battery - Doesnt matter.

Budget - 15k Slightly Streachable.

Looking for your inputs.

Thanks,

i doubt if the netbooks can handle 720p let alone 1080p. msi has the x340 with a core 2 solo cpu and a gma 4500mhd which can handle hd-content @ 16500-17k with 2 years warranty. if you want something more powerful consider the msi cr400x with a dual core cpu(t4300/t4400)with a nvidia 8200m gpu which can handle basic gaming and 1080p content easily and also delivers 3 hours of battery life - it will cost you 22k and for 23-24k you can get the same laptop with a core 2 dup t6500/t6600 cpu. the msi cr400x also has a celeron variant for 16-17k with the 8200m gpu which can handle 1080p content but is hard to find.

You'll need an Ion chip to be able to playback HD media. It would be a bit of a stretch at around 15k I think.. Not too sure but I think Ion based netbooks are 20k+
Alternatively, you could get the cheapest netbook you can afford and buy a broadcom crystalmedia add on card. that should have you set up for some supersmooth HD playback. I think Vasishta has a thread somewhere here with directions on how he went about it.

I think Dell's M101z will do all, the base model cost 20k with 3.5 to 5.5 hour battery life.

Though it is a AMD config.

Then netbook isn't your solution. Eventhough it can play s*crtm*th's 720p rips smoothly through vga on an lcd tv @ 1920x1080 but it can't play heavier 720p videos. Performance of 1080p is an absolute joke.

These are the entry level (net/note)books which are capable of playing 720p/1080p

MSI x340, Dell m101z, Asus 1215t (in the order of prices)

from where i can get the MSI x340 for 17k ?????

What would be the minimun recommended requirements I should look for to be able to play 720p videos from the Netbook?

I guess 1080p is out of the question!

Most netbooks come with Intel Atom which has hard time playing 720p or 1080p videos. so you should first look for a better processor and video card.

I would suggest to have a look at Dell Inspiron M101z which is 11inch screen with following specs:

Dell Inspiron M101z
  • AMD Athlon(TM) II Neo K125 Processor
  • 11.6†Widescreen HD glossy WLED display with TrueLifeâ„¢
  • 2GB (1 X 2 GB) 1 DIMM DDR3 1333MHz
  • 250GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
  • Integrated ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 4225(For K125)
  • Integrated Stereo Sound with SRS Premium Sound
  • Bluetooth 3.0 and WLAN 802.11b/g/n Combo Card
  • Dell(TM) Keyboard with Touchpad (English)
  • Genuine Windows(R) 7 Starter 32bit (English)
Cost: 21k

If you are open to something other than netbooks. Then this is the build you should look for.

Mobo: GA-D510 UD (from Gigabyte) Rs.3.8K

Gfx card: eVga nVidia 8400GS PCI 512MB DDR2 Rs.3.8K

RAM: 2 or 4GB which ever brand you like For 2GB Rs. 1.9k

Keyboard mouse combo max 1 K

Cabinet: CFI cube or Lian Li PCQ7(preferred) or CM 310 or CM360

PSU: FSP Saga II 350

HDD: depends on capacity the you need.

This build will max cost you around Rs.15~18K

Of course I am assuming the worst case here of components being expensive.

If you need help in getting the Graphics card then get it from ebay cart2indiaonline

looked It up on net there seem to be two output ports provided, but highest support seems to be for 1400x1050 so I guess 17 inch should be fine for you.

I dont think netbooks will support the high resolutions your 24 inch monitor is capable of. So it would be better If you increase your budget a bit and buy a low end note book from the options provided by others
