Netgear WG602 Wireless repeating

Hey!

First off, what is the firmware running on your current router? upgrade it to latest one.

The AP that you are mentioning will be able to serve the purpose you are looking for. Just search the netgear site for the device manual and go through the setup process. AFAIR there are several modes you can configure an AP: p2p bridging, mp bridging, repeater, client mode. Read the manual before buying.

Also, I'll mention FYI. It is possible to use two same make routers to extend the range. Basically, you need to find if the device supports feature called "WDS". Which enables a Wifi router to act in repeater mode.

The procedure is simple enough. Configure main router as you normally would. The extender router should be connect via wire to one of the LAN ports. It should have same SSID, security etc settings as the main router, DHCP should be off on the extender.

The main router would serve IP addresses to all the hosts in the network. The extender would just act as a hub to the main router in essence.

I know you wanna go for wireless solution, so in that case, the product you are looking at fits the bill pretty much, just get educated about it by reading the manual.

I maybe wrong, I think the network throughput available to the clients in the AP scenario gets halved.

I know I can buy another router, update firmware and use it as a repeater as mentioned here, but the thing is I'm setting this up for my cousins, now they're a bit finiky about this.. So that's why I'm buying the device that is meant for this purpose unless the wg602 costs substantially high.

I'm also aware that the total network throughput does get halved.. but its not like they have to watch 1080p HD content or transfer lot of files.

Thanks buddy for the help, appreciated..

PS - Do you think I should I go that N-draft thing to make it more future proof?
