So i'm planning on buying a budget wireless router in the next few days and have these three options in mind.

NETGEAR WGR614
eBay India: NETGEAR WGR614 WIRELESS ROUTER 54 MBPS WGR 614 (item 170380378262 end time 15-Sep-2009 10:30:00 IST)

Belkin G Wireless Router F5D7234
eBay India: Belkin G Wireless Router - 4 Lan Port. 5 Years Warranty (item 260473550222 end time 15-Sep-2009 09:30:00 IST)

Buffalo Wireless G WCR-G54
eBay India: Buffalo Wireless G BroadBand Router 54Mbps - 2YR + BILL (item 260471982065 end time 11-Sep-2009 00:44:14 IST)

The all cost almost the same (around 1.5k ) , and was wondering if any of you had any personal experiences with any of the three routers , so you could vouch for them.

Does anyone know for sure which of these routers can run DDR-WRT or Tomato custom firmware ? I visited the wiki , but could only find details about the Netgear model , and the others were missing.

Also , does anyone know why the Linksys WRH 54G is priced about 300-400 bucks more than the above three ? Is it just coz of the Cisco brandname , or does it have any extra features ?

Stay away from the netgear crap.
Whats your main use? If you want basic wifi then get the buffalo.

Can the Buffalo WCR-G5 be modded with DDR-WRT firmware ? I could not find info on it anywhere . Yes , will be mostly using it for wifi + torrents.

^^ Not supported as of now, Even tomato isn't supported.
I suspect that his new router isnt based on the brodcom chipset so mostly you will be stuck with the stock firmware.
Its got pretty decent range. Im not sure if you can port forward properly with this.

hmmm. And what was the reason not to go with Netgear ? I thought they had a good service network in India. Plus ..the reviews aint bad. And its DDR-WRT moddable.

Me too in same situation. Planning to buy wifi router for my Tata indicom Wimax connection but extremely confused which one should i go for.

Concerns:

1)
I am already facing port forwarding problem on my Wimax connection, thus suggest me a router with minimum port forwarding problem.

2)
My house is of two floors and will probably run 1 PC, 1 Lappy, 1 Iphone and 1 Nokia E63.

Budget is no problem, but need good performance and minimum hassle.

Advance thanks.

same prob but i have decided Dlink DIR-300 (DD-WRT compatible) avail for around Rs1600 locally

I am using Buffalo WCR-G54 since last 8-9 months, Its a crap and there is no proper support. If you want to download over wifi then don't just go for it. The connection breaks, and yes the biggest problem, At times it does not acquire IP from my ISP, I have to plug in my lan and browse the net. My suggestion is don't go for this. You can find my brief review here: http://blog.webstop.in/buffalo-wcr-g54-router-review.html

EDIT:
And yes it does not support dd-wrt, i emaild them to check, so you can't flash this router

Thanks

Any pointers to which one wins ?
I am also looking at a cheap basic wifi router in this config

Telephone line-> Beetel 220Bx->WIFI------> LAN PORT DownloadPC
Telephone line-> Beetel 220Bx->WIFI------> WIFI to Laptop / Phone

I would need port forwarding for efficient download using torrents.
Buffalo G54 doesn't support port forwarding but has a bridging mode, which I think will be sufficient for my purpose. Can the Gurus confirm ?
Is belkin any better in terms of range as compared to Buffalo G54 ?

dude in case you need a good basic wifi without going the trouble of custom firmware router go for the Dir 300. I went for it some 2 weeks back - works without problems - gives me 38-42kbps over a 384 kbps connection, very good wifi coverage, port forwarding, DMZ mode, autodialling and Hide SSID feature.

Very simplistic and simply just works - but note its end of life. Latest FW is a year old. Its like - fir it - forget it.

I haven't used any of the above mentioned routers, but have used a Belkin F5D7230..Been using it for over 2yrs now and have never had any issue with it...Had to reset it only once during the 2yr period, before which I contacted their customer care and they were very helpful...works perfectly...I would surely suggest u to get a Belkin router over the other two brands..

even buffalo one costing nearly same in mediahome.in site.

Buffalo WCR-G54 Wireless-G Broadband Router & Access Point

Price per Unit (piece): Rs.1,262.50 .

IS belkin is superior to buffalo leaving apart warranty?

Also in buffalo model it was mentioned access point. what does this specifically give any extra advantages??
