PC Peripherals Networking 2 PC's

Wish to connect 2 PC’s together so that,

1. Files can be shared
2. One Pc will have connection to the internet. When this PC is

connected the other should be allowed to share the internet connection.

I think cat5 cable & RJ45 connecters would be required.
What will be the cost incurred if cable length is around 15 meters?
What about wireless network - using bluetooth dongles
maybe - is it possible?

Hi Chand,

We will require some additional information :

1. Whats your system config especially the motherboard.
2. You can connect the two PC's using a crosscrimped CAT 5 cable.
3. You can share internet connection by using a proxy software like Winproxy.
4. Wireless is also possible, but you will require WIFI cards, am notsure of bluetooth dongles, in any case transfer speed via Bluetooth is very slow.

1. Intel 865 GBF + Dling Ethernet Adapter & Asus A7V400-MX SE
2. How much does this cable cost - cost/unit length??
3. Thanks for hinting that out :)
4. Wifi cards seem to be costly so might not wish to get into them (any they can do around 11 Mbps only). BT can go upto 4 Mbps correct?
If the cable cost gets close to that of buying 2 bt's than I thought it would be best to go wireless at little extra cost!

Whats your opinion?

Hmm
So both you comps have onboard lan, you will require a cross crimped cable, the factory crimped version cost Rs 100. Although cross crimping is pretty easy manually too, CAT 5 cables cost Rs 10 per metre, and the clips cost Re 1.

Bluetooth is simply out of question, low range[10 meters],low throughput around 1 Mbps.
How much are you willing to shell out in the first place? Cause a true Wi-Fi 802.11g costs some bucks.
Imho you stick to a wired lan using xover cable & ethernet adapters & share the connection using either ICS[Internet Connection Sharing] which is a built-in feature of XP or use a proxy software to get the job done.Which OS are you on ?

Got the 2 PC's talking with Optilink Cat5e, but had to reduce link speed to 10 Mbps.
Is it possible to push it to 100, or is the cables length [16meter]too long or its build quality too poor?? or anyother reason??
